As far as illegal immigration, we have a couple realistic solutions. Either penalize the companies who hire them by jailing them, or by forcing them to pay the illegals the same wages as Americans. Either reduces demand. Of course illegal immigration is the only area I really support tough, near draconian laws. I'm not big on confering our rights and privlages to non-citizens who broke the law to enter our nation.
So you think regular people eat pudding with a knife and fork?
The Berlin Wall, all examples of barriers that don't work, also, many illegals were once legal, but their visas expired and they have stayed. How does a wall help this problem?
Absolutely, it will end in whack-a-mole type scenarios with higher and higher costs. Only half of the undocumented entered illegally. A significant percentage of those probably came in through Canada or other access points. So a fence only even addresses a minority of the, so called, illegal immigrants.
The fence is a stupid idea that appeals to stupid people. We need to make the immigration system more efficient, reduce the burdens on honest immigrants and free up resources to deal with the undesirable immigrants.
The opponents to reform are lying about their motives. They want to discourage immigration and the cries about law and order are nothing more than propaganda.
Yeah, the Berlin Wall actually worked. Granted, it was utilized to slow down would-be crossers so that guard tower gunmen and snipers could do the real work.

Thanks for getting back to topic and away from racist comments, Prof. Baxter.
For those of you who think people from south of the border are taking jobs from citizens - the Farmworker's Union posted a whole bunch of crop picking jobs a couple years ago and only got one person to apply for them.

STRAWMAN CRAP
With immigration reform, we can then help keep jobs like picking crops, meat packing, etc from paying very low wages to illegal immigrants who can't complain about wages and working conditions; we can get those jobs to pay what they should be paying; and then maybe they will be attractive jobs again to non-illegal-immigrants. Of course we'll be paying more for food, but I prefer to eat food that isn't produced from substandard working conditions.
And when we cut through the bullshit and look at what you're actually saying, all we see is, the US has a problem with illegal immigrants and lo and behold, its our fault...
How typical of pinhead thinking.....do you also blame the victim instead of the rapist ?...blame the bank instead of the robber ?
How about the gun instead of the shooter ?....

Make them citizens who pay taxes, then they help foot the bills.
The only problem is the large corporations are not the victims, Vanilla, they are the ones exploiting people for cheap labor.
There were still enough people who crossed it.
Seasonal working permits and papers for willing workers will fix that problem....we don't need to allow ILLEGALS to do the work....but we do because they
can be abused and mistreated with ease.

We need a GOOD guest worker program so we can get the workers from south of the border that our farmers and other industries need, but that ensures they are paid fairly, treated fairly, aren't used to undercut other workers, and somehow accounts for the fact that many of them will go back south to retire, instead of collecting social security here. Or we need to send their earned payments to them down south.

171 people were killed or died attempting to escape at the Berlin Wall between August 13, 1961 and November 9, 1989.
You apparently missed the part of my post where I said we needed immigration reform? Here it is again
and from another post I said
Can you say 'irrelevant' ?
