Oklahoma Executions

Many here have been expressing the desire for vengeance as motive for this man having suffered the way he did.

“With all due respect, the fact is we have a dead scumbag. Was it because of a botched execution or was it because of ineffective drugs? What difference at this point does it make?” Hillary Clinton

Not really looking for sympathy, but thank you. It was a long time ago and I've mentioned it before. I don't think the the feelings of victims' families should be used to justify the death penalty and only raise it to rebut that specific point.

i disagree. the death penalty is about justice and part of that justice could be for the families. Some families feel closure. I would like to know that if anyone murdered me that they would be killed as well.

I always have mixed emotions, but the death penalty is still wrong. What these men did was barbarous, but we should not act in kind in my opinion.

killing someone quickly after they have been given due process is not "acting in kind"

Some do and some don't. There isn't uniformity, either from one family to another or even within the family of a particular victim. So, if you want to argue for the dealth penalty, do it, but don't pretend that you're speaking for all families of murder victims or acting at their behest.

strawman dipshit. no one has argued in this thread that it "deters" criminals. we like the justice aspect of it, we like killing scumbags. it's its own reward.

Perceiving killing as a reward is troubling, very troubling, even when it is scumbags.

Also, too, the countries depicted in red allow for life sentences (according to Wikipedia, whose sources I have not double checked:

I can see a compelling argument about the death penalty leading to the execution of innocents. that's bad. I think we should work towards a "beyond no doubt" standard for executions. So video evidence, plethora of DNA evidence, etc.

In the future we'll also have the ability to detect when people are lying by brainscans prob so that will help too.

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill.

Rotfl at you

It is indeed what it says, but the majority of Christians claim the OT laws were for the Jews and Christians are not bound by them.

If you are, do you eat kosher? Do you cut hair? Eat shellfish? Wear mixed fabrics? Does your wife go to the red tent?
