No Christmas For Ivanka.

. Thanks. You singled out Christians so I'm guessing they need permission. That's a relief.

Dude, the topic was Christians. If I didn't comment would you be attacking for ignoring Christians? Seems to me all you want to do is nag.

Here's a Christmas Day fill in the blank puzzle. Hint: A very annoying person N_gger. What is your guess?

Hello Dutch Uncle,

We see a lotta that. Like the many Christian 'churches' that worship money, and the 'evangelicals' who are multi-millionaires from all the 'giving to the Lord's work.' What total scams.

"Many", yes. "Too many", yes. Most? No.

Shit happens. Funny how the Greeks invented Democracy but it took rebellious Americans to kick out their king and forge the world's greatest democracy.

Disagree.

Poland beat the USA to freedom of religion & the same level of voting rights by over 200 years.

Poland beat the USA to checks & balances by at least 100 two years with the Liberum Veto.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberum_veto

40,000 Poles voted in the 1573 election.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1573_Polish–Lithuanian_royal_election

43,000 Americans voted in the 1789 election.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1788–89_United_States_presidential_election

As for freedom of religion Poland beat the USA by 100s of years.

See the 1573 Warsaw Confederation.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warsaw_Confederation

Poland abolished slavery in the mid 1300s nearly 550 years earlier than the USA had.

Although, Polish general Kosciuszko founder of American military engineering, was arguably the first abolitionist in USA history.
Having used his money to free & educate Black slaves.

Hm. I thought the topic poly Squawker was addressing was ivanka being a money grubbing joo and couldn't enjoy Christmas because of that.

That's one interpretation. I think he could have worded it better since he usually does. I don't agree with all of his views, but he's usually well and fairly spoken.

Hello cawacko,

My friend is Jewish and his wife is Jewish. They don’t put up a Christmas tree but give their kids a couple of presents on Christmas morning. Is that allowed?

Must be. You didn't say anyone busted them for it.

Is he being incongruous?

Yes.

Should I call him out?

Since you haven't said you already did then you've made your choice on that.

Perhaps it would be a good time to note that there are different forms of Judaism.

"Much like other Abrahamic religions, Judiasm is not a monolithic religion but a large faith that includes many subgroups. These subgroups are all related by common cultural and theological traditions, including adherence to the Old Testament, or Torah, as a holy book. However, the practices and lifestyles of individuals in different branches of Judaism differ dramatically. For example, Reform Jewish people may attend synagogue only on important holidays and may not keep kosher, while Hasidic Jewish people tend to stick very closely to strict, traditional religious practice, including dressing in a certain manner and performing religious duties every single day. Messianic Judiasm breaks off from other parts of the Jewish faith by accepting the New Testament and the concept of Jesus Christ as a Messiah, which some people argue makes this a Christian, not Jewish, religion."

My father could never do the proper commercial Christmas, since for him it was a working day, and to understand it properly I always recall these folksy verses about the full Victorian version:

'It was Christmas Day in the Workhouse, and the walls was whitewashed black,
When up spoke one brave old pauper, "God, this is a bloody shack!"

Then he spoke again, that pauper, for he was as bold as brass:
"You can keep your Christmas puddin', and stick it up your arse".'

It is Christmas well expressed. We had a nice Covid Christmas here - no visitors and a Chicken Maryland dinner - though I'm afraid we did get a couple of Christmas cards from 'Israel'

As a matter of fact in a group text last night my buddy wished us Merry Christmas. Normally I wouldn’t have given that a second thought. I’ve wished him and his family a happy hannakuah before. Maybe that makes me an incongruous Christian?

I find it difficult to believe many people want to push for a world where we police Jews and if they share a gift in their homes. I’m sure there’s a small minority of people that would love more than anything to publicly shame Jews which you are doing here. Maybe you can rally that group of folks to your cause.

I doubt if anyone wants to do that except in your imagination, and that of the troll who repeatedly asked what happens if a non-Jewish person marries a Jewish person, they don't have Christmas presents? lol

I was a room mother for my kids' classrooms when they were in grade school. We helped with parties and activities. Always felt sorry for the JW kids who had to go to a separate room during the activities with a volunteer who had them do homework while the rest of the kids got to partake in the holiday festivities. It wasn't a school policy; it was done on the insistence of the parents. Always wondered why they didn't just keep them at home on those days so they wouldn't feel left out.

The subject of the thread is No Christmas for Jews (yes it says Ivanka so it could potentially also say No Christmas for those who convert to Judaism). I’m a Christian but I’m not going to claim to be the most knowledge person on the issues of religion. So if there is a movement against Christians who convert to Judaism I might not be shocked and that’s the sentiment Poli is expressing here.

As to the example you offered I feel like that’s why my friend gave his kid’s a gift on Christmas. He and his wife have raised their kids Jewish and I never thought much of it the Christmas gift. But I guess that makes them incongruous Jews (a term I’ve never heard of TBH.).

One of my friends is a woman who converted to Judaism in her 60s. She and her husband celebrate both Christian and Jewish holidays, complete with gifts and seasonal decorations. Another, who grew up Jewish and lived down the street from us when we were kids, wished us all a Merry Christmas on social media. He was playing his guitar and had a Christmas tree in the background. Maybe it's up to the individuals to decide, eh?

I 100% agree with you. People can celebrate (or not) however they please.

I didn’t start this thread claiming Jews shouldn’t celebrate Christmas. I’m curious if this is important just to Poli or a bigger movement out there

I say your friends should do whatever they want regardless of their religion. And Christmas is a national holiday in the US, not just a religious holiday.

Illogical indeed.

Early Christians over time began to absolve the Roman authorities of responsibility for Jesus' execution.

The earliest Christian writers, like Mark, testify that Pontius Pilate ordered the execution of Jesus, and while some corrupt Jewish leaders were complicit, there was no overt attempt to place collective blame on the Jewish people. Mark is probably the most accurate testimony on that account, since it passes the test of historical contextual credibility..

Later Christian writers, aka Mathew and John, attempt to absolve the Roman authorities for Jesus' execution, and divert collective blame to the Jewish people at large.

One scholarly theory is that since 1st and 2nd century Christianity was a small and persecuted cult in the Roman Empire, they realized they could get in a lot of trouble for blaming Roman authorities for the death of their messiah. So the later Christian writers increasingly sought to modify the story of the crucifixion to absolve Pontius Pilate and the Romans of any culpability

A national holiday for religious reasons. If the US was 3/4s Muslim, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha would be a national holidays regardless if people were Christian, Jewish or purely secular.

This is cringey PT, I'm atheist and I still celebrate Christmas, you know, just the parts that actually exist like being with family and gift giving. She and anyone else can celebrate anything they want for all I care.

I've come closer to believing in Santa Claus a little more so than a God- or a Virgin Mary!

Render unto Cesar that which is cesar’s

Which is the message Trump fans have been screaming since 2016.

Jesus tried to remain non political

He stood against the fleecing of people trying to perform their religious rights

That was why he was murdered by an organized religious structure which found ways to make bank from organized religion

Jesus agreed with me on many things

He was a great philosopher

Oh, yeah?

He commanded us to help the poor, went nuts in a Bank, rode on a Donkey representing a peaceful kingdom & told us to get rid of weapons like swords.

Shows how far typical Republicans are from Jesus.
