Is FL approaching herd immunity?

So, if anyone thinks Florida is some success story, they should talk to the 10,000 families who lost loved ones. Floridas response was and continues to be a disaster. Numbers have begun declining, almost certainly due to much better mask compliance. In Jacksonville, the mask mandate had an immediate effect, my best guess is that we went from maybe 50% to 90%.

And if anyone thinks that Florida did not 'shut down', you should talk to the bar and restaurant owners who went out of business after the virus re-emerged over the Memorial Day weekend. Bars in Florida are closed. Gyms have no business. Restaurants have no business. Florida is the perfect example of failed leadership and what not to do. Somehow we are celebrating almost 4,000 new cases and 271 deaths? You think this is what success looks like? Please.

Couple the 25% ish positive COVID antibody test with T-cell immunity and the percent of FL population immune to COVID could be approaching 50%.

Factor in FL’s dropping numbers [*something* is causing the drop] in cases and hospitalizations and it’s easy to see why herd immunity refuses to go away as very plausible explanation for what’s going on in places that had large outbreaks followed by a drop in numbers.

Virus gonna virus—Farr’s Law

Keep in mind FL has gotten there without sacrificing their economy. Maybe someone should tell Cuomo he may be harming his state and it’s citizens needlessly.

He seems to have done enough damage already.

The death rate in NY is 80/100K and FLA death rate is 45/100K. Only a moron thinks cuomo, the granny killer, is doing a good job.

Got a link to an authority saying that Florida is approaching herd immunity? Or that it can be achieved with 10% of the population? Didn't think so. Because despite the fact that you have your cute little cracker jack scientist badge, you are full of shit.

I’m just a retired healthcare worker that thinks for himself lol. And more time to think.

But here’s a NYT article quoting a scientist:

But in parts of New York, London and Mumbai, for example, it is not inconceivable that there is already substantial immunity to the coronavirus, scientists said.

“I’m quite prepared to believe that there are pockets in New York City and London which have substantial immunity,” said Bill Hanage, an epidemiologist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. “What happens this winter will reflect that.”

Why don’t you think about this: instead of keeping NYC looking like a scene from the movie I Am Legend, it’s entirely plausible DeBlasio could safely open it up and reduce the human misery quotient for his citizens—who are goofy enough to keep voting for him.

And by ‘safely’ I mean without leading to a catastrophe like they had prior to herd immunity. They would see an increase in numbers [or maybe not] but the hospitals wouldn’t be pushed to the point of crisis; meanwhile, people could get on with their lives; businesses could begin to recover and NYC could begin to look at least semi-normal again.

If the pattern holds FL has seen the worst of it. Without having to stay locked down like NYC.
NYC is an economic basket case. corps are leaving in droves. They are losing the tax base.
those are going to be the same problems once COVID is gone. NY is a mess

Meanwhile we are NOT destroying our economy in Florida

ROFL.. he's too busy pushing his partisan agenda to look past coping with Covid

Miami /Dade /Broward.. same hot spots it's been from the beginning -otherwise the state is in good shape

Pockets of a city and a massive state with 24 million people aren't even close to equivalent. Apparently, you need even more time to think things through.

NY has 19.5 million people.
