Not unprecedented. Noah's ark. Passover. The Egyptian plagues.
Cuomo lol.

What seems to be saving us is that this bug is evolving into a less lethal form, as was expected to happen.
=Darth Omar;
Is FL approaching herd immunity?
It's already obvious there will be vaccines as we have for the flu every year.
Herd immunity is just another way of saying bubonic plague immunity aka "hey maybe you'll survive."
That's not a plan.
In theory at least, the selection pressure should be *against* a more virulent form: the evolutionary objective is to propagate the species and if every infection lead to death of the host—then that works against the objective.
Ideally, individuals would get sick but not so sick they’d die. A dead host is a dead end for the virus. IOW, the more virulent forms get selected out of the population since they are out-reproduced by less virulent forms.
In theory lol.
Even a vaccine is no guarantee since the anti Vaxxer will not take it. Many Trumpies will not either. They are the same people who are anti maskers. There is no saving us from right wng stupidity.
We have more than theory, we have experience with viruses, we have scientists who are expert in how viruses evolve.

we damaged the economy with the shutdown,
Couple the 25% ish positive COVID antibody test with T-cell immunity and the percent of FL population immune to COVID could be approaching 50%.
Factor in FL’s dropping numbers [*something* is causing the drop] in cases and hospitalizations and it’s easy to see why herd immunity refuses to go away as very plausible explanation for what’s going on in places that had large outbreaks followed by a drop in numbers.
Virus gonna virus—Farr’s Law
Keep in mind FL has gotten there without sacrificing their economy. Maybe someone should tell Cuomo he may be harming his state and it’s citizens needlessly.
He seems to have done enough damage already.
we damaged the economy with the shutdown,
and we had to reclose bars. But we've never gone back with more economic suicide measures after that.
I was on a main drag in the middle of rush hour - 5:30 -and traffic was heavy but not backed up
A lot of people are living on unemployment -so there is more economic activity that meets the eye.
We are doing pretty good.
No. Of course not. The idea is galactically stupid, the question is made out of desperation for a full throated defense of a disastrous re-opening that has now taken the life of 10,000 Floridians. Floridas numbers are dropping because everyone is wearing a mask. Any other stupid questions?

The number of people who die by suicide, alcoholism and drug overdoses — what are known as “deaths of despair” — could surpass the number of those who’ve passed from the coronavirus itself, according to new research.
Emotional pain is growing in America amid the COVID-19 pandemic and it’s getting worse, health experts say, to the point people are turning to self-destructive behaviors and, even worse, taking their own lives.
In a May report published in Well Being Trust, researchers project deaths of despair could reach anywhere from 27,644 to 154,037 if more isn’t done to address mental health problems during the perilous COVID-19 pandemic.
“Deaths of despair have been on the rise for the last decade,” authors said in the paper, Projected Deaths of Despair During COVID-19. “In the context of the coronavirus, deaths of despair should be seen as the epidemic within the pandemic.
Three factors contribute to these types of deaths: 1) economic turmoil combined with massive unemployment; 2) mandatory social isolation for months on end and the possibility of future isolation orders; and 3) fear and uncertainty about the novel coronavirus infectious disease experts have yet to crack.
There is good reason to believe that more people will die from suicide and the postponement of elective surgery than from covid.https://www.wishtv.com/news/medical...outnumber-deaths-from-the-coronavirus-itself/
And from problems not found and not treated because the medical system has been largely shut down, and from such things as known diabetics going increasingly not regulated because the medical system has been mostly shut down.
These fucking Americans are now largely incapable of thinking anything through.
Yes very true.
There's no such thing as ' herd immunity ' for Covid 19. It's a lie spread by irresponsible and self-serving assholes who want the outdated and derelict economy ' resurrected '
