Is FL approaching herd immunity?

Russian asset

Couple the 25% ish positive COVID antibody test with T-cell immunity and the percent of FL population immune to COVID could be approaching 50%.

Factor in FL’s dropping numbers [*something* is causing the drop] in cases and hospitalizations and it’s easy to see why herd immunity refuses to go away as very plausible explanation for what’s going on in places that had large outbreaks followed by a drop in numbers.

Virus gonna virus—Farr’s Law

Keep in mind FL has gotten there without sacrificing their economy. Maybe someone should tell Cuomo he may be harming his state and it’s citizens needlessly.

He seems to have done enough damage already.

Good. Then you know for a fact that FL can't be close to it.

Herd immunity is a Republican fantasy. Because Republicans have become the party of no responsibility or sacrifice. This distancing/mask stuff is just TOO hard...like a cattle car in the '40's, I tells ya.

If we have herd immunity, nobody has to do nuthin'.

There is no immunity, herd or otherwise. At most it lasts a couple weeks, usually a few days.

A slew of studies show that disease-fighting antibodies, as well as B-cells and T-cells that can recognize the virus, appear to persist months after infections have run their course, The New York Times reported.

"This is exactly what you would hope for. All the pieces are there to have a totally protective immune response," said Marion Pepper, an immunologist at the University of Washington and an author of one of the new studies, which is now undergoing review by the journal Nature.

"This is very promising," said Smita Iyer, an immunologist at the University of California, Davis, who is studying immune responses to the coronavirus in rhesus macaques, told the Times. "This calls for some optimism about herd immunity, and potentially a vaccine."

You say that as if it’s a bad thing lol.

Who told you herd immunity was a ‘fantasy’? In a twisted kind of way, Democrats look for reasons to discount it.

But here is NYT talking about it, finally:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/08/17/health/coronavirus-herd-immunity.amp.html

What’s going on here is that Democrats have a political dog in the fight: it has to be lockdown/masks/mitigation in order to keep the focus on You Know Who.

But for millions of years before Trump came along viruses would swim through populations—leaving herd immunity in its wake. When the herd immunity catches up with the virus, the virus drops off. Plot it out on a graph and you get a nifty little Bell Curve.

It’s a purely natural phenomenon. Human immune system vs virus. It’s the default explanation until proven otherwise.

Asian countries are handling the pandemic better than the West. A theory has been suggested that the Asian countries have already experienced SARS and MERS and that they have a built in immunity.

"SARS, MERS and COVID-19 are all respiratory illnesses that are caused by the same large family of viruses called coronavirus. Coronaviruses are actually quite common. They are the source of many of the common colds that people get and recover from every day.'

So, it might be which comes first, 'herd immunity' or a vaccine. (?)

Asians might be genetically better able to fight off this bug than non asians.

They also have a culture that is familiar with wearing masks. Where we have stupid uneducated jackasses in red states
that hate their government and smart people.

Let’s put it this way: it NYC, FL and etc are on the downhill side of the herd immunity race—it’s really good news. IF they can come up with a vaccine to go along with it we can see the end of COVID for all practical purposes.

Whatever the herd immunity number is [%] a vaccine paired with it should mean Game Over.

If not, it’s herd immunity all the way.

This could be God's way of culling the herd. (did you ever think of THAT, Micawber?)

Agree.

I don't think it's 'genetics'. It may be 'prior exposure'. Meaning 'herd immunity' (rather than a vaccine) is what may save us (or ... most of us).

What seems to be saving us is that this bug is evolving into a less lethal form, as was expected to happen.
