With 58,000 dead, pandemic becomes Trump's Vietnam — in just six weeks

I don't remember anyone saying over 2 million if we shut down. I remember those were the predictions for scenarios where we did nothing, or very little (sorry - can't open your link).

Though, Trump repeatedly says that he saved over 2 million lives w/ his actions at this point....

You can't open the link? Are you too retarded or what? The link works, click on it and become better informed. Or perhaps you prefer being a know-nothing jackass?

Well, not to be pessimistic, but just last week they were saying 60K by August. I think we're likely to see closer to 200K with reopening measures (which I largely do not disagree w/, btw - I do think it becomes a lesser of 2 evil argument, and the economy has suffered too much already).

Trump never looks frickin' brilliant, or anything close to it. Anyone who really believes that has lowered the bar for brilliance immeasurably.

You meant to say you HOPE we're likely to see closer to 200K with reopening measures. But not to worry you pathetic cretinous jackass, you stay hunkered down in mom's basement until the develop a vaccine. We'll tell you when it is safe for leftist morons to come out.

The last line is pathetic. My "plan" to transition to green never involved shutting down the economy due to a pandemic. Can that comment be any more lame? There is less immigration now, too. How do you like that so far? Has it helped the economy?

Biden won't be a good President. BUT, he won't be terrified to surround himself with good, intelligent people, who disagree w/ him. We'll be in better hands w/ that kind of admin than the "I alone can fix it" one.

#fuckoff

It is the system -- and the voters -- that is flawed. This crisis, had it happened 20 years ago, would have brought us all together --

Yes, but the Democratic Party of the Jackass and PHONY lying media are desperate these days. They can't come together with this President. They have a truly pathetic candidate in Joe Biden they need to drag across the finish line by any means necessary, even if it means further splitting this nation apart in desperate times.

If you had even half a brain, you could comprehend that is assholes like you and your pathetic ideology that is dividing us. You assholes lost; get over it. You'll lose again this November; time to move on.

Again - what was MY dire prediction? A nd what action did Trump take specifically?

The leftist predictions, the "you" is the royal "you"...

And what actions did he take?

January 6: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a level I travel notice for Wuhan, China due to the spreading coronavirus.
January 7: The CDC established a coronavirus incident management system to better share and respond to information about the virus.
January 17: The CDC began implementing public health entry screening at the 3 U.S. airports that received the most travelers from Wuhan – San Francisco, New York JFK, and Los Angeles.

(You'll have to note that these all happened before China even admitted that human to human transfer was possible).

January 27: The CDC issued a level III travel health notice urging Americans to avoid all nonessential travel to China due to the coronavirus.

(At the same time the WHO was telling folks that it was cool to continue travelling there).

January 31: The Trump Administration:

Declared the coronavirus a public health emergency.

Announced Chinese travel restrictions.

Suspended entry into the United States for foreign nationals who pose a risk of transmitting the coronavirus.

We can keep going... but we don't really have to.

You already know that Trump's administration took action to curb the spread of the virus, it is only purposefully obtuse leftist hacks or literal sheep (orange man baaaad) that can't remember.

I get you don't like Trump. I don't like Trump either, but he's still better than Hillary and I am still glad that Hillary lost.

I hate to agree w/ that last part, but I'm getting more pessimistic. It's stunning how quickly this crisis was politicized, by both sides.

Only one side is politicizing this. Only one side was too busy trying to impeach a President for no other reason than he won an election. I call bullshit when a lying leftist like yourself attempts to suggest it is BOTH sides.

Both shutting down and reopening have become Dem/Republican issues. Thank you Fox. Thank you CNN. Thank you Trump.

Fuck you; it is pathetic when leftist liars attempt to pretend they aren't left wing partisan hacks on steroids and instead of blaming the real culprits of division and derision, the Party of the Jackass and their willful accomplices in the PHONY media, point the finger of blame at anyone but themselves.

#fuckoff

Now you are just being deliberately obtuse. My first post in this thread explained and linked to the prediction, and the actions he's taken to limit the spread of the virus. If you don't understand that your life isn't normal right now due to suggestions from this Administration then you are literally the only one. Acting stupider than Trump is not a winning strategy. Starting off with ridiculously high death numbers in your predictions in the US alone isn't the way there either.

The only positive actions #COVID45 took early on were closing off travel to the U.S. Since then he has bickered incessantly with the governors -- who are the ones who issued stay-at-home orders for their states. Trump resisted that vigorously until he didn't. He has been all over the map as far as actions to prevent further spread, and testing/treating patients. He has encouraged residents of states with (D) governors to resist stay-at-home orders and expose themselves unnecessarily. His daily briefings are self-congratulatory clusterfucks. Even his experts have to tread lightly lest they invoke the emperor's displeasure and have their heads (figuratively) removed.

The governors are the ones working to mitigate the spread of the disease, find equipment and supplies for their hospitals, and increase testing. For the most part they are doing a great job, both (R) and (D). Unfortunately since this is a patchwork approach to a national level crisis, results vary from state to state. This is a time when the federal govt. should be shining. It is not, thanks to the failures of the bumbling and egotistical TV game show host/IMPOTUS.

A new lethal and contagious virus profiled in multiple models from multiple sources making multiple assumptions about govt and human behavior responses and forecasts possible.

Why would you be surprised if a worst case is not realized? I think it is the best way. Telling people this is a nothing burger would be the virus' best friend.

We the people share the blame for being the tools of the above.

The people aren't the problem; the Party of the Jackass and their willing accomplices in the media are. They want to make everything anti-American and anti-Trump. Many Americans are growing sick and tired of that bullshit. Most Americans want to get back to work. Most Americans are tired of being bombarded with Covid disinformation campaigns from the media.

November will be harsh on the left and their PHONY media.

I give him credit for his actions in January. What about February? I know you probably think that's nitpicky, but this is a global crisis. It's not enough to say "we did a ton of stuff at the beginning."

All of the comments in February set us back. "15 to zero" and the rest - they lulled most of us into a false sense of security, which Fox ran with. Yes, the models were wrong - but the economy is paying for Trump's choice to "cheerlead" now, and he should be held accountable for that.

And it's always a mistake to use the plural "you" to lump everyone together into a monolithic voice in debate. You generally lose. I never made "dire predictions." I've been feeling my way through this like everyone else. I've been trying to view it objectively, and not take a stand on either closing or reopening based on politics. I happen to be on the side of reopening now, so I'm not exactly w/ "the left" on that one.

I don't mourn for Hillary not being President. But watching Trump's thin skin, contradictions and self-absorption every day, during a crisis like this, is a bit of a nightmare.

I don't think his comments set us back, because they didn't change policy. While I do think they were foolish, he has a penchant to connect his mouth to whatever may be going on in his head without regard to what people around him may think. It is frustrating and one of the reasons I dislike him so much.

And what actions did Trump take specifically?

It's hard to take your bullshit seriously. I'll make this bigger for you:

On December 31 last year, China alerted WHO to several cases of unusual pneumonia in Wuhan only AFTER whistle blowers had the courage to get it out.

January 6: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a travel notice for Wuhan, China due to the spreading coronavirus

January 7: The CDC established a coronavirus incident management system to better share and respond to information about the virus

January 11: The CDC issued a Level I travel health notice for Wuhan, Chinahttps://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/NEJMoa2001191

First case discovered in the US on January 19th. Arrived on January 15th.

January 20: Dr Fauci announces the National Institutes of Health is already working on the development of a vaccine for the coronavirus

January 31: The Trump Administration:
1. Declared the coronavirus a public health emergency.
2. Announced Chinese travel restrictions
3. Suspended entry into the United States for foreign nationals who pose a risk of transmitting the coronavirus.

February 24: The Trump Administration sent a letter to Congress requesting at least $2.5 billion to help combat the spread of the coronavirus

February 29: The Trump Administration:
. Announced a level 4 travel advisory to areas of Italy and South Korea
. Barred all travel to Iran
. Barred the entry of foreign citizens who visited Iran in the last 14 days

March 6: President Trump signed an $8.3 billion bill to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

WHO declares COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11

What were Democrats doing? Trying to impeach Trump:

3 December - Following the testimony of Yovanovitch, Sondland, Hill and Holmes, the House Intelligence Committee publishes a report stating: “The impeachment inquiry has found that President Trump, personally and acting through agents within and outside of the U.S. government, solicited the interference of a foreign government, Ukraine, to benefit his reelection”.

5 December - Pelosi announces that the committee will begin drafting articles of impeachment, telling the media that Trump’s “wrongdoing strikes at the very heart of our Constitution”.

10 December - The Judiciary Committee unveils its articles of impeachment: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Trump is the first president to be charged with these specific articles.

12 December - The House Judiciary Committee deliberates over two articles of impeachment, accusing Trump of abusing the power of his office and with obstructing Congress, during a highly charged debate that lasts for more than 14 hours.

13 December - The panel approves the two articles of impeachment on a party-line 23-17 vote. The result makes Trump the fourth US president - after Andrew Johnson, Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton - to face impeachment by the House.

18 December - Following a two-month inquiry, the House of Representatives votes in favour of the two articles of impeachment.

22 December - A new trove of documents is released following a freedom of information lawsuit, including the 25 July email in which Duffey, the OMB’s associate director of national security programmes, tells defence officials to withhold aid to Ukraine.

2 January 2020 - Unredacted emails seen by the Just Security online forum reveal discussions within the Trump administration in which the Pentagon repeatedly sounded the alarm that the freeze on funding was in violation of the law.

7 January - Republican Senate leader McConnell accuses Pelosi of delaying the referral of the articles of impeachment against Trump to the upper chamber.

15 January - Pelosi refers the articles of impeachment to the Senate, triggering only the third impeachment trial of a US president in history. The New York Times reports that it marks “the beginning of a trial that has the potential to shape President Trump’s legacy and affect the 2020 election”.

16 January - Supreme Court chief justice John Roberts is sworn into his presiding role. Roberts also swears in the Senate’s 100 representatives who will act as jury in the trial of President Trump.

5 February 2020 - The Senate votes to clear Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Former presidential candidate Mitt Romney was the only Republican senator to vote to convict Trump, on the first charge.
