With 58,000 dead, pandemic becomes Trump's Vietnam — in just six weeks

Eight weeks ago it was said there would be millions dead.

Practically everyone was wrong lol.

Who cares. Time to move forward, forget about the election and get this country back on its feet.

Would you tell us just who said there would be millions dead? Its all your bullshit

Now Trump has his own personal Vietnam?!!

In the winter of 1968, with no end in sight to the surging Vietnam War, and unable to see a way past his signature failure and the divided nation the conflict had created, President Lyndon Johnson announced to a shocked nation that he "shall not seek, and I will not accept" the Democratic nomination for president. The war, with an American death toll that eventually reached 58,000, had destroyed the Johnson presidency.

In the next day or two the Covid-19 pandemic death toll in the United States will match that Vietnam War death toll. (On Sunday night, the tally stood at 55,000.) What took nine years of jungle warfare in Vietnam, Trump and his utterly failed pandemic leadership has overseen in just six weeks time. Yet rather than conceding his failures and acknowledging his shame the way Johnson did in a self-less attempt to heal the nation, Trump has spent recent days suggesting people ingest Lysol or Clorox in order to cure themselves of Covid-19. (He later insisted, not believably, that he was joking about the deadly advice.)

Nearly 58,000 are dead, the American economy has collapsed, food lines are growing, and the unemployment rate could hit 20 percent this year. In a sense, this is Trump's Vietnam and Trump's Great Depression.

Hey dumb ass, you do understand there is a difference between w worldwide pandemic and escalating a civil war don't you?

You have a partisan-driven logical dilemma on your hands and maybe you don’t realize it lol. Partisanship has a way of doing that.

If you insist on making the China virus ‘all about Trump’ then Trump gets points for keeping the death toll down. Ironically, the model projections gave Trump a ridiculously low bar to clear.

Again, ironically, the China virus IS about Trump—it’s about what Trump campaigned on. It wasn’t Hillary that was that was saying we needed our jobs back from China or that China was screwing us on trade and stealing our technology.

And what do ya know, after three plus years of the left’s absurd Russian and Ukraine obsessions—who is it that bends us over and gives it to us?

China.

Trump’s campaign writers should have it easy: if you want open borders and if you want to go back to being China’s bitch after what they did to us—absolutely do not vote for Donald Trump.

There is a lot of blame to go around. China should definitely be held accountable.

But Trump has been a pathetic leader. The above isn't even very good spin.

Just a couple of weeks ago, you said you had no idea how we'd ever hit 50,000. Before that, you had a thread citing 61 in a sarcastic way as "exploding." Now you're saying he really kept the death toll "down."

It's kind of amazing.

WTF is your problem Earl? Are you willing to compare Trumps actions to those of Johnson making a fake incident to escalate the Vietnam war?

I’m flattered you read and assimilate my posts so religiously.

Explosion sarcasm aside, the ‘gist’ of the ‘61 post was the prediction the OH COVID guru made about 100k infections, in OH on 3/16.

That one was a real winner, huh lol? Oddly, that never gets mentioned by the lefties.

You also ignored my point about how Trump actually campaigned on China and had them dead to rights—in 2016, while the left spent three years harping about Russian assets hiding in the closet.

Which of the two had it right? And can you blame people for not voting to going back to being China’s bitch, after all this?

Trump may have his warts but he’s nobody’s fool. This country desperately needs that in a leader.

He's a total fool, and the worst possible leader right now.

We'll have to agree to disagree on those things.

President Trump has spoken to the grief and suffering daily at his briefings, caused by the virus from China that China failed to contain.

He is allowing the states to reopen their economies by stages as per the guidelines.

It’s the Democrats who are fighting to keep the economy from recovering.

Shifty Schiff is even speaking of investigations while a pandemic is occurring here and around the world.

Remember when folks were predicting 2.2 Million US deaths? 58K would be a HUGE win considering the dire predictions y'all were spouting off about at the beginning, not a "Vietnam"...

https://theintercept.com/2020/03/17/coronavirus-air-pollution/

I don't remember anyone saying over 2 million if we shut down. I remember those were the predictions for scenarios where we did nothing, or very little (sorry - can't open your link).

Though, Trump repeatedly says that he saved over 2 million lives w/ his actions at this point....

That prediction was from 3/17/2020... When we were already doing things. Likely he's using those huge predictions from early on to spur those comments. At this point if that "prediction" held as the one we were using to measure things by... Trump looks frickin' brilliant. 1% would be 220K deaths... 58K is incredibly good with that kind of prediction.

Well, not to be pessimistic, but just last week they were saying 60K by August. I think we're likely to see closer to 200K with reopening measures (which I largely do not disagree w/, btw - I do think it becomes a lesser of 2 evil argument, and the economy has suffered too much already).

Trump never looks frickin' brilliant, or anything close to it. Anyone who really believes that has lowered the bar for brilliance immeasurably.

Yet, you seem to want him to look brilliant... Less than 1% of the predicted deaths (200K still is less than 1% of the original projection) will make Trump look very good, and will make leftist idiots look petty and uncaring.

With 58,000 dead, pandemic becomes Trump's Vietnam — in just six weeks

Dumbest lame narrative yet. You really are a mental midget with severe TDS aren't you? Again, what did Trump do to cause this viral epidemic. Let me help low IQ partisan hacks like you; NOTHING.

Only sad, pathetic, dishonest, low IQ hacks on the left wish to blame the guy who had NOTHING to do with this rather than the true culprits, the dictators in Marxist China where these epidemics seem to always originate and the W.H.O. who crawled in bed with the Marxist dictators, bought their lies and allowed the cover up.

Once more I am going to share some facts for those on the left who seem to be so woefully inept at thinking for themselves and mistake parroting asinine, false narratives is a good substitute:

Number of deaths for leading causes of death annually:

Number of deaths: 2,813,503
Death rate: 863.8 deaths per 100,000 population
Life expectancy: 78.6 years
Infant Mortality rate: 5.79 deaths per 1,000 live births

Heart disease: 647,457
Cancer: 599,108
Accidents (unintentional injuries): 169,936
Chronic lower respiratory diseases: 160,201
Stroke (cerebrovascular diseases): 146,383
Alzheimer’s disease: 121,404
Diabetes: 83,564
Influenza and Pneumonia: 55,672
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome and nephrosis: 50,633
