Weiner: Yeah, it was my wiener!

Was Ike caught lying while in office?

Had he been, and if I possessed a time machine, I'd call on him to resign, too.

Wouldn't demanding he step down be the government being the determiner of religious beliefs or practices. Being unfaithfulness to your spouse in not a crime. It would fall into the category of a sin. A sin is a religious sanction, not a legal one.

WHAT does being unfaithful to his wife have to do with being faithful to his oath to protect and defend the Constitution? This is right wing conformist mentality

He swore to be faithful to his wife, just as he swore to protect and defend the Constitution. You are trying to say its ok to break one oath but wrong that we assume if he would break one he would break another?

I did not say he broke a law. I said he lied and that he was willing to break a sworn oath. Nothing about religion was mentioned. He could have had a civil ceremony for all I know.

You want to pretend that its ok for him to lie, knock yourself out. But I maintain that our elected officials must be held to a standard of at least being honest.

fuck that half those assclowns would be gone on the no extra marital action or lying. Child Please

Then half of them need to be gone. Or all of them need to be gone. It pisses me off that our society has become so accepting of lies from politicians. We should REQUIRE honesty from every last elected official. That so many people just wave this off and say "we'd have to fire them all" is bullshit. Our blase' attitude explains why so many crooks, liars and cheats are in DC. Because we pay them to stay there.

He's a human being. What he did was not unlawful, but it is extremely embarrassing, harmful to his family, his marriage and his public image. NO ONE here would willfully admit their transgressions unless they were caught. To claim otherwise is nothing but self righteous bullshit. We need to judge our representatives on how they vote on the issues.

I fully support Anthony Weiner what ever he decides. He works tirelessly for the rights of working men and women of his district and our nation.

I said before, I didn't call for Republican Chris Lee to step down, and his district is an adjacent district. So his votes would directly affect me.

WTF?? We judge them solely on how they vote? So they can lie, cheat, steal or whatever, but as long as they vote right they get to stay??

Are you even seeing what you are posting????

And no, if someone found out about the picture he sent and asked him, he should have owned up to it.

I hope no one ever judges you as harshly or as bitterly. We need to go back to the days when a man's private life was HIS business, and his pubic life was the people's business. There have been many great public servants that had transgressions in their private life. Read up on Dwight D. Eisenhower...should he have stepped down as supreme commander during WWII?

You need not worry, I will judge myself as harshly. But I do expect my elected leaders to be honest. I will accept stupid or crazy, or whatever, but the must be honest.

If he lied to us to cover his ass, then hell yes he should resign. He should have resigned or be ridden out of town on a rail.

no shit false Bhuddah is a natural born hater.

wide stance and whore lover committed crimes, these riechwingers outrage was abscent

??? I called for Craig's resignation. I haven't called for this idiot's resignation. I've simply pointed out that he is currently, and will always be, a national joke.

Check the threads in Vitter. I ridiculed him for his getting caught being what he ranted against, and said he should resign for being caught lying.

then all you non realist gaylords cry here all day

So demanding that our politicians not lie to us is being a "non realist gaylord"?

Ok, then this country needs more "non realist gaylords" and fewer of the complacent idiots who will accept anything as long as they get what they want from DC.

Bullshit, that is what a society with standards would do.

The funny thing is, what we are suggesting is 180 degrees from authoritarian. We are talking about society holding the ELECTED politicians ACCOUNTABLE. It just highlights the fact that BFGRN likes tossing out inflamatory terminology without any understanding of what the terms actually mean.

He is flailing around for anything he can use to defend the man. The religious test thing was out of left field too.

I think he's made it pretty clear he values how the guy votes over everything else.

We all make mistakes. I think people are willing to give more leeway to those who 'man up' and admit their mistakes rather than lie about it.

If authoritarianism is submission or obedience to authority then holding elected officials accountable for their actions seems like the opposite of it to me.

OK, YOU set the criteria. Weiner lied about sexual e-mails and pictures with other women. NO ONE died or is being harmed. So you better fire off letters to every Republican in the House and Senate, because they LIED to the American people; and the outcome of their lies cost human life.

At the beginning of this process we made a strategic decision: we would make no deal with the administration. No negotiations, no compromise, nothing. We were going for all the marbles. This would be Obama’s Waterloo – just as healthcare was Clinton’s in 1994.

The causes Weiner is a strong articulate and vocal advocate for will not evaporate. I hope he stays and continues to make right wing corporatists in Congress squirm.

Go get them Anthony!

Here's the thing....it's not so much that he was nailed with what's essentially is an elaborate way to flirt with other women while being married.....it's the fact that he went public with outlandish lies and dodges to try and cover it up. That may cost him in political support and voter confidence. Hell, the Dem party honchos are already making public scowling noises!

What I find fascinating is that the general public seems okay with politicians lying to them, but somehow lying to a spouse is unforgivable. Go figure.

I suspect that's the feminist effect. In purely pragmatic terms, he should resign because he can no longer perform as a viable legislator.

I would wager that it's not wholly a "feminist effect"...as in the 30 years the "moral majority" was led by a (mostly) hypocritical bunch of men.

As for Weiner losing his viability as a legislator...that would only come into question regarding propsed legislation on marriage. Other than that, technically he's the same legislator, as he's broken NO law....unless his wife files for divorce, Breitbart sues for slander or Pelosi and company find grounds for ethics violations.
