The Social Dilemma

i have read real facts from real sources. i have watched fox let their guests spew the craziest shit for decades. fox and newsmax and other right wing media are not nearly as accurate as real media.

Do me a favor. watch it, then get back to me.

I wathced some dood on msnbc a house rep say that if we removed troops from quam the island would capsize. but thats besides the point. watch it, its a red pill blue pill moment and non partisan.

While you are on Netflix watch the dirty money series of docs in PHARM, Trump, and Jared. They are revealing. It is scary to see what PHARM does.

I'll check it out, but this thread, I'm encouraging those to watch this.

I can quantify and verify its accuracy from what I know as an it security and forensic specialists, forgive me Im a little geeked about the documentary as it is something I have failed to articulate over the years what I've known. not anyone here, but I feel justified by the presentation.

It can be anything,...but not so constrictive like that. A more fluid conversation. More like....... What makes you such a strong believer in being self sufficient? What experiences did you have in life that helped that line of thinking take hold? More a WHAT MAKES YOU TIC sort of thing.

Hey. Your Call. I think it is a Good Idea to actually have a 'conversation' rather than the 'Team Sport Narrative'.

yeah, and he got made fun of for being so stupid. is that any dumber than trump claiming windmills cause cancer?

My intentions are good. 4:00 CT should be fine, but I'll confirm as we get closer. This time of year is a real mofo in a professional sense. Would you like to restrict the conversation to specific topics or is this just a free flowing stream of consciousness between you and me? I don't know how to prevent everyone from commenting except for you and me, but I can look into it.

Sounds good. Free flowing convo....cya then

I tried finding it. I was going to rent it, buy it, or steal it. I guess it's only on Netflix and you have to stream it.
The way my son described it, it's a 'Tell-All'.

if your son saw it, he can help you see it. its super eye opening and I encourage you to make effort to see it one way or the other,.

As to your last paragraph, I think it's more sinister than that. Politicians are people. All people are flawed. All of that goes without saying. I think that the political parties, though, actually corrupt the people who identify with them. I know it's sort of a counterintuitive claim because political parties don't exist without individuals, but I honestly believe that the root of our political unrest has more to do with structural politics than human nature.

The American political system was good intentioned. The founding documents did a decent job for a long time. They can still save us if we amend them, but in their current form, they are largely obsolete. The way people produce, share, and consume information is utterly unrecognizable to the Founders. The career aspect of public service was never intended by the Founders. I have no illusions that the Founders did not fully comprehend and condone the influence of money over politics, but I do not think their wildest imaginations could grasp the relative wealth of modern corporations.

I have never registered with a political party. I try to be consistent in my judgment of them, but their offenses are not always equal. As you and I have both said, we collectively have more in common than not, but that doesn't prevent unlimited money and psychological warfare from manipulating the average, undereducated American into hating anyone who deviates from their thoughtless political ideals.

When I registered to vote at 18 I registered as a Republican and I've never changed it. There have definitely been times I've wanted to but ultimately never followed through. I've asked myself if I changed my registration to Libertarian or Independent or decline to state would I think or behave any differently than I do now? I don't think so but without doing it I guess I really don't know.

I know tribalism is a very real thing. I'll call myself out and say even on an a stupid anonymous board like this I've typed something up and then not hit reply/send because it would calling out or going against someone on my 'side'. It often seems a political party is like a family member. To many if you call out a family member those are fighting words. Same with the tribalism of partisan politics. If you attack my party you are in fact attacking me/my family. Or if you 'attack' someone who is on my 'side' then you are in essence attacking me. That's powerful stuff.

Regarding money in politics I'm not going to claim to love it but I also don't have visions that we're going to eliminate money from politics and politicians will act anymore pure or perform any better.

You accurately described the 'Team Politics' that are the usual fare here.

Political party and family, to me, are two completely incongruous terms. That's why I say that the two major parties have manipulated most Americans into a tribalism that doesn't even exist.

Money in politics can be addressed by further examination of Citizens United.

watch it, you'll be like "holy fuck" you wont be surprised but it will articulate what you have felt.

Its funny my wife made me watch it, and at first I was like "who is this pretentious douche" etc and thought it another lw bullshit netflix documentary by the end I was in awe especially who was speaking out about it. I think it should be mandatory in schools

:) Since I haven't seen it, I can't really comment with 'enthusiasm'. My son told me about it. He was pretty amped up.

Has anyone here seen it?

If you want to understand why we really are this divided these days, look no further than media, social media..... I strongly recommend you all watch this documentary. you are a commodity that increases their profits the more divided you are.

I watched it. We are fucked. Big money will not allow us to change. Putin may have figured this all it before we did. He is using it wisely to destroy democracies. How can chaos and strife be a goal someone wants?

Russia? Russia didn't unleash a deadly virus on the world's most vulnerable populations along with crashing their economies.

There is no Democrat that is going to bad mouth China. They are not going to bite the hand that feeds them.
