Take Anything You Hear About This War with a Mountain of Salt

use it. but realize both sides are using it for their propaganda.

Irrelevant. I don't think anybody is making a decision to support or oppose this war because of (fake) videos or reports. We either think it is ok for one nation to invade a sovereign nation or we do not. The propaganda does not change our minds because we already know there is enough suffering going on already.

Numbers and reporting will be more accurate a year or so after it ends. war is messy and scary.

Lots of the arena cannot be seen by bystanders or reporters. It is not a plot against the truth.
This is Russia's war. They attacked. Legion cannot make that go away. I hoped that we were smarter than this. War was done, except America's war for money and resources.
A nation against nation war by Russia is a return to European battles of the past. I guess Putin is too steeped in Russian propaganda
and his lust for Russian control over much of Europe. Good thing he is 70 yrs old.

people are influenced beyond "who invades whom". I'm not claiming support
that is obviously vastly pro-Uk. but the details like the no fly, the supposed attack on a nuclear reactor etc. take their toll
Ukraine is getting pulverized - Yes Putin is doing the damage but if you just listen to Zelensky you would think Uk can repel the Russians -and that is a false hope with concurrent damages

:toilet:

Everybody already knows both sides use propaganda. That does not change our opposition to a Russian invasion.

Nor should it, which I why I didn't suggest anything of the sort.

Here's your chance to oppose the Russian invasion: https://fightforua.org/

Naturally, I'll understand if you prefer to convince yourself that you're opposing the Russian invasion by posting @ JPP.

Even Zelenskyy knows better, but his internet adherents don't seem to, do they?

I think most of us agree Russia will eventually control, but it is only natural for Zelensky to attempt to build morale and urge people to fight to defend their country.

Bre Hernandez used to scan TikTok for videos of makeup tutorials and taco truck reviews.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine, the 19-year-old has spent hours each day scrolling the app for war videos, watching graphic footage of "Ukrainian tanks firing on Russian troops" and "civilians running away from enemy gunfire".

“What I see on TikTok is more real, more authentic than other social media,” said Ms. Hernandez, a student in Los Angeles. “I feel like I see what people there are seeing.”

But what Ms. Hernandez was actually viewing and hearing in the TikTok videos was footage of Ukrainian tanks taken from video games, as well as a soundtrack that was first uploaded to the app more than a year ago.

The footage and soundtrack were traced back to their original sources in a failing New York Times analysis of the videos.

In one example, Pravda, a Ukrainian newspaper, posted a clip featuring 13 Ukrainian soldiers on Snake Island, an outpost on the Black Sea, supposedly facing a Russian military unit that asked them to surrender. The clip was then used in many videos which included a note stating that all 13 soldiers had died.

Ukrainian officials later admitted that the men were alive and had been taken prisoner, but the videos have not been corrected.

They might temporarily, but not in the long run. Even having some control would be expensive, messy, and make Russia more of a pariah than they are now. Insurgencies that are backed by the masses of people win. The Ukrainian people will be unlikely to bend a knee.

Is that so, Field Marshal Fuck-witz?
