when you legally hire someone in the US you are bound to certain laws which protect the employee.

think about that.

its an obligation to certain contractual agreements.

your just way to stupid to understand that all

If a country wants American money, it means it cannot support itself. Therefore it should give up its soveriegnty and become a colony. If you want the benefits of our nation you have to be a part of it. Otherwise tough shit.

If we can help other countries why do we have to sit by and watch cities like Detroit just sink into despair?
We don't but the flaw in your argument is that they are mutually exclusive issues. Foreign spending, not including aid to our military allies represents about 1% of our national budget. Would it be more rational to state, why should be we spending massive money on bloated programs like defense and medicare? Couldn't we streamline those to be more cost affective and use the savings to help people? You'd gain far more revenue that way than if you chopped all of foreign spending.

The right in this country hates half of the American people.

Its why they do things like hold up disaster aid to places they DONT LIKE.
Desh...you're not thinking this through. If you cut all of foreign aid you save enough to run our Government for about 4 hours. How far do you think that would go towards helping people in a nation of this size?

I don't see why we can't both give foreign aid AND also help out here at home.

We need to have influence in the world; foreign aid is one of the ways we do that.

We also need to take care of our people here at home.

Balancing the two is always the issue.

From the linked article, I found the section "Development assistance as a percent of GNP" interesting - US is on the low side there.
No it's not. As I pointed out to Desh....that's a logical fallacy. We more than have the resources to do both as foreign aid represents a miniscule portion of our governments national budget. To state "you need to balance the two." is a false choice.

why is it stupid?
Why is it stupid? Are you that uninformed? Cause we don't live in a vacuum with a 300 mile high wall surrounding the US. We have social and commercial congress with the rest of the world that are vital to our interest, economically, for mutual defense and cultural exchanges that are vital to our interest. Providing foreign aid goes a long way toward providing global stability, it expands economic opportunity, it promotes American values. Where the hell would we be now if our forefathers had not had the fore sight to provide substantial foreign aid during the Post War Era (Marshal Plan) and during the Coldwar (the Truman doctrine)? We'd of been up shit creek. We do far more to cement our position as the worlds only global super power with judicious foreign aid spending than we do with all the trillions we spend on defense and at a far lower cost and with a far greater return on investment. That is why foreign aid is important.

Those who even ask this question are essentially being xenophobic and not using their heads!

Where is this global stability you speak of? Mideast peace? Egypt? Please expound.

It is funny liberals bitch about foreign aid and say dumb things like "we need to help our people here". Then when we agree with them and say yeah, cut foreign aid they get all McCainy

I'm trying to wrap my mind around conservatives allowing all those egyptians, libyans, syrians, etc voting in US elections since they would now be part of the US.....

And talk about a boost to immigration! As part of the US they would, of course, be free to travel anywhere in the US...

I doubt they'd give up their sovereignty, which is the point. American money for American citizens. If you don't want to submit to us, don't call on us for help.

Better be prepared for them to say yes.

But as pointed out earlier - we'd be a lot worse off if we didn't give the miniscule % of our GDP that we do give in foreign aid. It gets us influence, gets us friends, gives us a say in what's going on.
