Ryder Cup @ Bethpage Black

I played yesterday after a meeting of the Southeastern Oklahoma Sportsmen Association (trying to get our Wildlife Management Area roads re-opened) and shot my PB on this course since I revived my golfing career 😉. I recently joined due to its proximity to my house and finding out that a friend was a member there.

Got home and watched the painful results of the afternoon session. Decided to just watch the Bucs and the Chiefs today. At least the Chiefs are disappointing…so far.
Pfffffttttttt! They won! Go Chief

The crowd was embarrassing. I'm ashamed by their behavior. They should stop servicing alcohol at these events. It brings out the worst in people. That is no way to behave. Golf is a gentleman's sport.

As bad as we were the first two days, we were electric yesterday. And 100% agree about the fans.
Crowd behavior wasn’t all bad, not good, but hardly horrific. It is always a select few, and it is usually drunk middle age guys who feel they have the right to say/yell anything they want from an anonymous crowd, we’ve all seen it, but in Golf, the players are more exposed.

Americans have to change their approach, planning, whatever. The Europeans have owned this event since the turn of the century. Instead of paying the big bucks they do the players they ought to reinvest the money in preparation as the Europeans do with their funding. For all the palsy walsy the Americans talk they don’t project the team solidarity that characterizes the Europeans

Guaranteed if it were played in a backward flyover state like Kansas the crowd behavior would be far more civilized.
This was my take on it.

No alcohol only if the event is in the NY/NJ area. Or just don’t have it there anymore.

You're excusing unacceptable behavior. I posted what Dan Rappaport wrote, he summed it well.

I agree completely, the Europeans are wired differently when it comes to this event.

Wait a minute, so crowd behavior is only bad in the NY/NJ area? There are assholes in every crowd at any athletic event across the country, as I said, ever been to an NFL game

And promoters aren’t going to erase a huge money maker as banning alcohol

They should have warning that heckling and unruly behavior will not be tolerated and violators will be ejected.

Not accepting, rather acknowledging reality, that behavior is present at most athletic events, I’ve even seen a fight break out at a Little League game, and when you add in alcohol, it is common

Americans need to do something different, and I don’t think it is just the coach’s fault, it is what occurs behind the scenes leading up to and even during the event.
