I understand there are some people outside of Russia who wish they could be Russian without having to actually move to Russia. In the same sense, there were people outside of Germany in the 1930's who wished they could be German without moving to Germany, and Hitler used that as an excuse for his military expansionism.
Plus, of course, there are people inside of Russia who wish they could not be under Moscow's heel (without having to emigrate). Russia has a bunch of such ethnic enclaves that would absolutely love to be independent or to join some other country. But, that doesn't allow another country to invade those parts of Russia to "liberate" its people from Russia. You know perfectly well that if some other country tried to do to Russia what it's trying to do to Ukraine, Putin would not let that happen, no matter how many ethnic minorities within Russia were cheering the move. But he's a hypocrite, as are you. This isn't about a democratic respect for self-determination. It's about a desire for imperial expansion by an autocratic thug.
