Russian forces are engaged in a fierce battle in eastern Ukraine, as they continue their attempts to take control of the Donbas. Intense fighting is currently raging in the city of Sieverodonetsk, where Ukrainian and Russian soldiers are locked in deadly combat. The city, like many others in Ukraine, has been subjected to a brutal barrage of Russian artillery and air strikes, which have led to devastating destruction and loss low life.

New intelligence reports from the UK's Ministry of Defence (MoD) suggest the Russian tyrant is having to resort to ever more desperate measures in the pursuit of his war aims.

With stocks of precision weapons running low, the Kremlin has been forced to wheel out Cold War-era arms to continue its brutal assault.

In particular, Putin's army is reported to be using Kh-22 missiles, that were originally intended to target aircraft carriers using nuclear warheads.

The MoD said in its Saturday bulletin: "Since April, Russian medium bombers have likely launched dozens of 1960s era Kh-22 air-launched, heavy anti-ship missiles against land targets.

"These 5.5-tonne missiles were primarily designed to destroy aircraft carriers using a nuclear warhead.

"When employed in a ground attack role with a conventional warhead they are highly inaccurate and can therefore cause significant collateral damage and civilian casualties.
"Russia is likely resorting to such inefficient weapon systems because it is running short of more precise modern missiles, while Ukrainian air defences still deter its tactical aircraft from conducting strikes across much of their country."

Last week, the British Defence Secretary travelled to Kyiv to hold talks with Ukraine's President.

The meetings focused on the UK continuing to provide operationally effective lethal aid that meets the current and future threats facing Ukraine.

Mr Zelensky later praised the UK for its support, describing Britain as "a real friend".

Express sure seems to be one sided. I never see anything but negative articles about Russia and Putin.
BBC seems more balanced.
doesnt mean it isnt true here.
Russia is supposedly fielding old Soviet tanks
Ukraine is running out of artillery ammo.. and the beat goes on

Ukraine is wearing Russia down. Russia will never control Ukraine. They may occupy them but they will never control them.

For old Soviet area weapons.

No- for the assortment of mis-matched EU cast-offs that have managed to survive the Russian surveillance.

Hint; never tie your flag to your limp Johnson.

Haw, haw.................................haw.

no that is not accurate at all. Russia is killing 600 - 1500 Uk forces a day (per Zelensky)
Russia has battalions in reserve
we are sending more stuff, but at least for now Russia is winning the war of attrition

and not a freaking word about ending this cycle thru talks

What is the point of this thread?

Everyone knows Russia is, slowly and by design devastatingly destroying the Ukraine, Putin wants the war of attrition he knows he can win, regardless of cost. He knows, as de Tocqueville even pointed out centuries ago, the way to beat a democracy, and in this case, Western Democracy, is to just wait it out even if that takes years. He is in for the long haul, and given logistics, will eventually succeed over the Ukraine. What he gets is another question

because Russia doesnt have unlimited time or weapons either..Ukraine is slated to get more -and apparently Zelensky is willing to let Ukraine get completely smashed to hold territory where the separatists an population dont want to be part of Kyiv gov't
Russian troops need to get spelled, the topic is weapons ( you can see they aren't unlimited)
Ukraine forces are getting killed at high rates...it's a discussion of the war of attrition

As I said, a war of attrition, one Putin knows he can win regardless of cost or Russia's world standing

I didnt see you used "attrition" my bad eyes again

It's a weird war of high tech drones, Javelin making armor useless, and long range hypersonic missiles ,
and yet a throwback to WWI trench warfare of artillery barrages

Only partially true. The Kh 22 could also be used to deliver a nuclear warhead against an area target like a city. The improved Kh 32 could be used against a target like an individual ship or large building like say, a power plant, as it has better accuracy and would be effective with a conventional warhead.

It sounds to me like the Russians are just firing off whatever they have laying about because firing off older, obsolete or obsolescent missiles and such is cost effective for them. They're paid for long ago and using them up this way really costs little or nothing.
