VICTORVILLE (CBSLA.com) — A man believed to be a radicalized Muslim was reportedly arrested after he allegedly chased and threatened to kill a neighbor with a sword.
Mohamed Ahmed Elrawi, 57, of Victorville, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder early Tuesday, according to the Victorville Daily Press. Deputies told the newspaper evidence inside Elrawi’s apartment suggested he may have been a radicalized Muslim.


A report of a man brandishing a weapon in the 14000 block of La Paz Drive was called in at 5:09 p.m. Monday, and deputies found Elrawi had gotten into a dispute with the victim, believed to be a neighbor, and allegedly began to chase the victim around with a sword and threatened to kill him, according to the newspaper.


Elrawi said he would “die and kill for Allah” before he fled, authorities told the Daily Press.


Authorities reported finding a Koran and other items inside Elrawi’s residence, leading investigators to believe he may be a radicalized Muslim, the newspaper reported.

MAPLETON, N.D. A Cass County Sheriff Deputy tells us they will try again to get Abdulrahman Ali out of his jail cell and in front of the judge. If Ali refuses they may use probable cause and set bail.


Ali is facing 5 felony counts including; gross sexual imposition, kidnapping, aggravated assault, and two counts of terrorizing.


According to court documents Ali forced a woman working at Gordy’s Travel Plaza into the women’s bathroom, locked the door behind him and started assaulting her in the center of the room naked.


When law enforcement arrived they began striking the door with a closed fist and yelling loudly, “open the door now,” according to documents. Officers also began to kick in the door around 20 times and yelling, “Are there any weapons?” At that time officers heard Ali say “She is my wife.”


The door eventually opened and officers found Ali completely naked and the victim was injured and in tears.


The victim tells police she could hear Ali mumbling. Documents say she was unsure if Ali was speaking English or a different language, but she could recognize one thing Ali said while they were in the bathroom alone. She heard Ali utter “Allah Akbar,” which, in Arabic means God is the greatest.

First, Jonas Edmonds dropped off his cousin at Midway Airport to catch a flight to Egypt. Then, he returned to his cousin’s Aurora home to collect the uniforms Hasan Edmonds once wore as a member of the Illinois National Guard, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

After the feds arrested him, Jonas Edmonds lied about his cousin’s trip to Egypt. He told authorities, “He’s going to visit a friend or wherever he’s going. I don’t know. Somebody. He’s trying to move there.”


But Jonas Edmonds knew that Hasan Edmonds had really set out to join Islamic State terrorists, according to Jonas Edmonds’ 22-page plea deal with prosecutors. Not only that, but Jonas Edmonds had planned to disguise himself in Hasan Edmonds’ uniform and attack the Guard base in Joliet where Hasan Edmonds had trained. He had hoped to kill as many as 120 soldiers, prosecutors have said.


Jonas Edmonds pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiring to provide material support to terrorists and lying to the feds about international terrorism. He now faces as many as 23 years in prison after admitting his guilt in front of U.S. District Judge John Lee. His sentencing hearing is set for Jan. 27.


Jonas Edmonds appeared in court dressed in orange jail scrubs. The hearing was not attended by his family. His lawyer, James Graham, said his wife and kids support him.

Graham also emphasized that Jonas Edmonds is not cooperating with prosecutors, in spite of his plea. Hasan Edmonds is set to plead guilty Monday.


Authorities found an Illinois National Guard drill schedule, as well as an “army jacket,” “army shorts” and “military brown boots” when they searched Jonas Edmonds’ townhouse, records show. He was arrested without incident March 25, around the same time authorities arrested his cousin at Midway Airport carrying a black backpack. Records show the backpack was filled with all-weather and camouflage notepads, a camera, a Quran and two books: “Fortress of the Muslim” and “The Covenant of the Flame.”


A criminal complaint suggests undercover feds kept close tabs on the cousins online at every step in their alleged plot. But Hasan Edmonds’ military training and access to military facilities seemed to elevate the seriousness of their case above others who have faced terrorism charges in Chicago. The Edmonds even visited the National Guard base with an undercover fed the day before their arrest and discussed where the soldiers trained, records show.


That’s when Hasan Edmonds allegedly entered the base and retrieved a military training schedule, which he gave to his cousin, the feds say. The feds say Hasan Edmonds, a member of the 634th Brigade Support Battalion in Joliet, plotted for his cousin to “put the fear of Allah in their hearts and minds right here in the homeland.”


Jonas Edmonds asked an FBI undercover employee “to assist in the attack, and explained that they would use Hasan Edmonds’ uniforms and the information he supplied about how to access the installation and target officers for attack,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. Hasan Edmonds told his cousin to “kill the head,” prosecutors said.


Authorities became suspicious of Hasan Edmonds late in 2014, when the FBI learned he and his cousin had devised a plan for Hasan Edmonds to travel overseas and use his military training to fight for the Islamic State.

YouGov/HuffPost's latest research shows that most Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Islam. 58% of Americans have an unfavorable opinion of Islam, and just over a third (35%) say that they have a 'very unfavorable' opinion of the religion. Only 17% of Americans view it positively. Democrats (27%) are the most likely to have a favorable opinion of Islam, but even they tend to say that they view Islam negatively. Among independents (58%) and Republicans (75%) most people have a negative view of Islam.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Minnesota man is in police custody, accused of trying to help nine others leave the country to join ISIS.

Abdirizak Mohamed Warsame, 20, is charged with providing material support to terrorists in Iraq and Syria. Authorities say he was arrested at around 7 p.m. Thursday in Eagan.

According to the criminal complaint, Warsame was at one point the leader of a group of young, Somali-American from the Twin Cities who tried to flee the country in April to aid the terrorist organization in Iraq and Syria.

FBI investigators say Warsame encouraged his friends to join ISIS overseas, provided money for one of their passports, and even tried to leave himself in the spring of 2014, but his expedited passport application was denied. He initially told the state department in his application that the passport was for a family trip to Britain, but later said in an interview with the State Department that the family was traveling to Australia.

Ultimately, he was able to get the passport in August of 2014.





The nine other men involved in the investigation have been charged, though Warsame has not. Three of them have pleaded guilty, five will head to trial next year, and one — Abdi Nur — is believed to have made it to Syria.

Court documents say some of the information gathered in the investigation that led to Warsame’s arrest came from one of the other nine suspects charged — Abdullahi Yusuf. He told investigators the group had a plan to drive across the border to Mexico and fly overseas from there.

Yusuf was being held at a halfway house in St. Paul for several months until authorities found a box cutter under his bed.

The criminal complaint says a confidential informant also helped investigators obtain a recorded phone conversation in which Warsame talked about wanting to join ISIS overseas.

Investigators say Warsame was also in touch with Douglas MacArthur McCain, who federal intelligence authorities say was killed overseas fighting for ISIS in August 2014.
Authorities say Warsame will make his first court appearance Thursday morning.

Former college student, Arab citizen held on federal ammunition charges

MELBOURNE (CBS12) -- A citizen of the United Arab Emirates, kicked out of college, is being held on federal ammunition charges in central Florida.

The Department of Justice arrested 25-year-old Hamid Mohamed Ahmed Ali Rehaif on charges of possession of ammunition by an unlawful or illegal alien.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of ten years in federal prison.

According to the criminal complaint, Rehaif came to the United States under a student visa in 2013. He got kicked out of the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne in 2014 and lost his student status.

The Department of Justice said Rehaif became an unlawful alien when he failed to leave the United States within 30 days of his termination as a student.

A call about suspicious activity at the Hilton Rialto in Melbourne on Tuesday, Dec. 8, is what led investigators to Rehaif.
Melbourne Police received a tip about a man named Hamid Mohamed Ahmed Ali Rehaif who had been staying at the hotel for nearly two months. Investigators said he paid more than $11,000 in cash for his room.

The caller, according to the criminal affidavit, said Rehaif checked out every morning and checked back into the hotel, but into a different room for 53 consecutive days. Police said the caller also claimed Rehaif admitted to having weapons in his room. Rehaif reportedly showed several bullets to a hotel employee as well.

Investigators with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the FBI confronted Rehaif in the hotel lobby that day.
The affidavit indicates Rehaif initially claimed to be enrolled in college but later admitted that he wasn't a student. Investigators say he admitted to violating his immigration status by not being enrolled in college.

Investigators, after getting consent from Rehaif for a search, found rounds of ammunition for a handgun and rifle in his room and rented storage unit.

Rehaif, according to the criminal affidavit, admitted to using the weapons for target practice at gun ranges in Orlando and Melbourne. But he told investigators he sold the guns. Investigators did not find any firearms.

Rehaif told investigators he owned ten cellphones but pawned eight of them. He didn't explain why, according to the affidavit.
Rehaif is due in court Monday in Orlando.

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - A military official from Qatar and his wife, accused by prosecutors of keeping two servants in slave-like conditions while they lived in Texas, face deportation after pleading guilty in federal court on Friday to lesser charges.


Hassan Al-Homoud, 46, pleaded guilty to visa fraud and his wife, Zainab Al-Hosani, 39, a citizen of the United Arab Emirates, pleaded guilty to knowing that a felony was taking place but failing to report it, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Texas said.


They will be sentenced in February and likely deported at that time, a federal judge said, adding he would have handed down a harsher sentence but could not since the servants refused to testify against the couple.


The two, who remain free on bond, could have faced up to 20 years in prison on charges of engaging in forced labor.


Al-Homoud was undergoing military training at Camp Bullis, an Army post near San Antonio. He and his wife brought the servants with them from Bangladesh and Indonesia.

Prosecutors said the couple kept the servants in primitive conditions, withholding wages and providing them with only limited amounts of food. They also took their passports to ensure they would not try to escape.


"I want the parties to know that this court was prepared to try this case but it made it difficult when the two victims did not want to go forward," U.S. District Judge Orlando Garcia, visibly upset, said in court.


As part of the plea agreement, Garcia is expected to order the couple to pay each of the servants $60,000 and to leave the United States and never come back.

Gerald Goldstein, the couple's defense lawyer, assured the judge they would leave the country within hours of sentencing.

WASHINGTON — President Obama supports the right of Muslim Americans to celebrate religious holidays, the White House said Friday. He just can't give them the day off.

Responding to a petition on the White House's "We the People" site, the White House declined to declare federal holidays for the Muslim holy days of Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.

That's because Congress has only designated 10 federal holidays each year: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. "Proposals for new permanent federal holidays are typically the province of Congress," the White House said.

The White House was prompted to respond to the petition after it received more than 100,000 signatures over 30 days.

"There is a large population of Muslim people in the U.S and the two holidays that are celebrated are not recognized in calendars to mark these special days," the petitioners wrote. "Students are missing out on school, people taking time off from work, this is all because these holidays are unknown."

The response to the petition came the same day as Obama signed an executive order giving federal employees a half day off on Dec. 24 — Christmas Eve. It also comes as Obama has denounced intolerance toward Muslim Americans following terrorist attacks in Paris and San Bernardino.

Man accused of ISIS terrorism may plead guilty


A Rochester man who allegedly wanted to kill returning American troops is scheduled to plead guilty to federal crimes, possibly for recruiting jihadists for the Islamic State terrorist group.

Mufid Elfgeeh is scheduled to be in U.S. District Court in Rochester on Thursday for a guilty plea, court records show. The court records provide no more details about the planned plea.
Elfgeeh's attorney, federal prosecutors and the FBI all declined to discuss details of Elfgeeh's possible plea. However, if Elfgeeh's case is resolved, the plea will come at a time of growing national concerns about "self-radicalized" terrorists, as federal authorities portray Elfgeeh to be.

A naturalized U.S. citizen originally from Yemen, Elfgeeh ran a convenience store and pizza shop on North Clinton Avenue. He was arrested in 2014 on terrorism-related charges, allegedly working to recruit individuals to join the lslamic State of Syria, or ISIS. Federal prosecutors also allege that Elfgeeh wanted to buy handguns to kill returning American troops and Shi'ite Muslims living in the area.



The case against Elfgeeh was built on his expansive use of social media and his conversations with men whom he did not know to be FBI informants. Prosecutors allege that he tried to recruit three men for ISIS; two of them were FBI informants.

At one point, the FBI had four agents translating his thousands of pages of instant and Twitter messages and 200 videos found on his telephone.

The FBI said Monday that it has arrested a Maryland man who received thousands of dollars from Islamic State terrorists to carry out an attack on U.S. soil.


Mohamed Yousef Elshinawy, 30, of Edgewood was taken into custody Friday afternoon at his home. He was charged with providing material support to the Islamic State, lying to the FBI about money transfers and concealing evidence, according to a criminal complaint.


The complaint outlined Elshinawy’s stream of communications with Islamic State operatives who sent him nearly $9,000.


Elshinawy told the FBI that one of the militants said the money was to be used for “operational purposes”and cited the May attack on the prophet Muhammad cartoon contest in Garland, Tex., as the kind of target he should contemplate, according to court documents.



The FBI said Elshinawy earlier this year pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, and wanted to die as a martyr.


Elshinawy told the FBI that he never intended to carry out an attack and was simply going to take the money from those “thieves.” He suggested to the FBI that he should work for them to identify the Islamic State’s money network, according to the complaint.


The FBI said he used the money to buy phones, calling cards and a laptop computer. The FBI wasn’t able to account for all the money, some of which went toward personal expenses.

Elshinawy used social media, multiple email accounts and “pay as you go” phones to communicate with Islamic State operatives, the FBI said.


The bureau first learned about Elshinawy’s connections to the Islamic State in June after it became aware of payments to him that originated overseas.


Elshinawy, who remains in custody, appeared Monday in federal court in Baltimore. Federal public defender Joseph A. Balter said, “We consider this to be a very early stage in the proceedings. We hope the public reserves judgment.”


Elshinawy is one of dozens of people who have been arrested in the past year in connection with the Islamic State as the FBI has sharply ramped up efforts to blunt the threat from the militant group.


Elshinawy’s arrest comes on the heels of the deadliest terrorist attack since Sept. 11, 2001, in which a husband and wife killed 14 people in San Bernardino, Calif.

[h=1]19-Year-Old Charged With Helping ISIS Had Ammo In 'Go Bag,' Says FBI[/h] [h=2]Pennsylvania teen Jalil Ibn Ameer Aziz was arrested Thursday.[/h]
WASHINGTON -- A Pennsylvania teenager who allegedly supported the self-described Islamic State on social media was arrested by federal authorities on Thursday, a few weeks after FBI agents conducting a search found high-capacity magazines in a backpack in his bedroom.
Jalil Ibn Ameer Aziz, a 19-year-old U.S. citizen from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, made his first appearance in federal court Thursday to face charges of conspiring and attempting to provide material support for the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL. Aziz used at least 57 different Twitter accounts to disseminate ISIS propaganda and advocate for violence, federal authorities allege. Twitter routinely shut down the accounts, but Aziz would create new ones in their place.


Aziz had a "tactical-style backpack," which authorities described as a "go bag," with "five M4-style high-capacity magazines loaded with 5.56 ammunition, a modified kitchen knife with the handle removed and wrapped in cloth or string, a thumb drive, a tin filled with various over-the-counter medications, and a head wrap commonly referred to as a balaclava." FBI agents found the bag when they searched the home Aziz shares with his parents on Nov. 27, according to an affidavit from a FBI agent.


"Pennsylvania have very light gun laws its very easy to arm yourself," Aziz allegedly tweeted back in March. It's unclear whether Aziz made any attempts to acquire a weapon while he was under the watch of the FBI.


Aziz also allegedly discussed traveling to ISIS-controlled territory in Iraq or Syria and purchasing a female slave. He used a Twitter account in June 2014 to pledge allegiance to an ISIS leader, tweeted #KillAllKufar in January (advocating for the murder of "infidels"), and reposted tweets calling for violence after the murder of three Muslims in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in February.

"This martyrdom will be a spark that will awaken sleeping lions in America, let their blood watered the seeds of jihad #ChapelHillShooting," Aziz allegedly tweeted.


Federal authorities also claim that Aziz used his various accounts to assist individuals who were traveling to fight with ISIS, and that Aziz "allegedly acted as an intermediary between a person in Turkey and several well-known members" of the organization.
