The extortion attempt is obvious from the preponderance of testimony given thus far. If the Senate does its job and subpoenas witnesses like Bolton and Mulvaney...there will almost certainly be even more.

Here is what McConnell should offer as rules

The democrats can call the witnesses that they called in their hearings including the whistleblower

They should also be bound by regular rules of order in a court.

What can be more fair than that. They democrats can’t claim to want to call new witnesses they couldn’t be bothered calling in the House

It was far from a perfect call. Trump is incapable of an extemporaneous perfection. His rhetoric is that of a not-especially-talented grammar school student.

The testimony indicates there was an attempted extortion...which apparently is invisible to Trump supporters.

I'd say, "Nice try" but I'm sure you would realize I was just being kind. It wasn't.

Partisans are always overly optimistic about their chances of success (elections, impeachments, etc.).

There is no way 2/3 of the Senators are going to vote to convict no matter what Mulvaney and Bolton say.

No it would not justify Trumps request. Regardless of whether or not Hunter is guilty of anything Trump did not have the right to use that 400 million to bribe the Ukrainian president. He also did not have the right to defy multiple subpoenas, both are criminal acts worthy of impeachment. Hell, the dozen times Mueller said he obstructed that investigation were worthy of impeachment as was his paying off his prostitutes during the election. His personal lawyer is sitting in prison for that one right now and if you think Trump didn't know about that you are a blithering idiot.

I don't think McConnell will allow a single witness, he knows they could only bury him deeper. I would like to see a few repub senators vote to see more witnesses although I would bet McConnell will find some bogus reason to not call for that vote if he knows a few of them will.
