Next time genius, if you wish to only talk about what happened in the few years Johnson and Shriver were a part of the war on poverty, you should state as such. Regardless of how you wish to define the conversation NOW.... the war on poverty was a complete failure. It did NOTHING to improve poverty. NOTHING.
Side note moron... the POLICIES put in place by Johnson and Shriver are still in place for the most part. They are simply part of other agencies.
But good to know that you now blame Obama for everything that occurred after he took office in January of 2009. Every single bit of it was his fault... right?
ON what grounds are you stating that it was 'extremely successful'??? That Shriver was able to continue the trend already in place for a couple more years after the 'war' began???
If millions of INDIVIDUALS were helped escape poverty through OPPORTUNITY, which is what the War on Poverty was all about, HOW can it do "NOTHING to improve poverty"?
It is ironic how collective thinking permeates your mind...
Although we don't have a chart that shows what poverty would look like without those programs, the FACT that millions have been helped escape poverty through those programs, any person with the power of reasoning and deductive thinking could connect the dots.
But you CAN'T...
The War on Poverty was a 'hand up' not a hand out.
Specifically, LBJ's Act:
1. Called for the creation of Head Start, a Job Corps, a Work-Training Program and a
Work Study Program.
2. Sought recommendations from citizens throughout the country (CAPS – Community
Action Programs), to design long-range proposals to fight poverty in their
communities.
3. Requested the authority to recruit and train thousands of citizens (VISTA –
Volunteers in Service to America) for the war against poverty.
4. Asked Congress for funds to help those currently unemployed (through a new
program of loans and guarantees) as well as struggling farmer workers (through the
purchase of land, the organization of cooperatives and the creation of new family
farms).
5. Created the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO). Through this office, Johnson
proposed the implementation of a comprehensive plan to create opportunities for the
underprivileged.
Without a 'hand up', maybe you would prefer NOTHING be done, which again, any person with the power of reasoning and deductive thinking could see would lead to hand OUTS instead.
