Florida Gov. DeSantis proves the naysayers wrong

"Florida reports 173 new deaths from COVID-19, most announced in a day"

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida announced 173 new resident deaths from COVID-19 on Thursday, the highest number announced for any day since the start of the pandemic.

It doesn’t mean all of the deaths occurred Wednesday but marks the largest number reported at a single time by the state.

Florida’s department of health also reported 10,249 more cases of COVID-19, snapping a string of two straight days with fewer than 10,000 new cases.

The state is now up to 389,868 cases and 5,518 resident deaths associated with the novel coronavirus since the start of the outbreak. At least 114 more nonresidents have died in Florida.

Florida’s previous record for deaths announced in a day was 156 on July 16. The state had announced 134 new deaths Tuesday and 139 on Wednesday, which was then second-most for a day.

Suspected, probable or confirmed by labs?

The naysayers said opening up too soon was going to result in a huge spike. That is exactly what happened. Desantis learned so much, that he wants to open schools. That is not too bright. It risks lives. But it is what Trump wants. Any question what the Gov, will do?

I don't think there's any question at all. DeSantis is committed to driving the car off the cliff. He doesn't care at all how many Floridians he takes with him. Today's count, 12,444 new cases, 133 dead. I guess he won't be happy until the bodies are piling up in the ICU hallways. And neither will Stretch. They are beneath contempt.

Keep in mind that CDC separates NY stats from NYC-only stats. You need to add in the NYC stats......maybe another 200k???

Number of Jurisdictions Reporting

There are currently 60 U.S.-affiliated jurisdictions reporting cases of COVID-19. This includes the 50 states; the District of Columbia; New York City, the U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S Virgin Islands; and three independent countries in compacts of free association with the United States (Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Republic of Palau). New York State’s reported case and death counts do not include New York City’s counts as they separately report nationally notifiable conditions to CDC.

Plus the fact that the CDC combines presumed and confirmed together to produce higher fake "confirmed" totals in all states.

Pretty funny, close to six hundred posts later, "stretch" is still trying in vain to prove his claim that Desantis did the right thing

No matter how many "alternative facts" one can employ it is beyond common sense to deny that the Governor f*cked up, and what makes it sad is that he did it largely just to please Trump

If Desantis wants to lead the nation in Corona, he did a fine job. He is right up there. He was told that opening up too soon was going to spur Corona, and he did it. It is a great success.

And in the process he might have also made Florida a Blue State come November

Florida invited the nation to its reopening — then it became a new coronavirus epicen

This bragged bastard DeSantis said, we will not become like New York?!! Florida has surpass New York in corona virus cases?!!

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — As the coronavirus savaged other parts of the country, Florida, buoyed by low infection rates, seemed an ideal location for a nation looking to emerge from isolation. The Republican National Convention moved from Charlotte to Jacksonville, the NBA eyed a season finale at a Disney sports complex near Orlando and millions packed onto once-empty beaches.

Weeks later, the Sunshine State has emerged as a coronavirus epicenter. Nearly 1 out of every 100 residents is infected with the virus, hospital intensive care units are full or filling up, and big-name visitors who chose Florida for their first post-isolation events are now mired in questions and controversies about safety.

Trump having to backtrack and shutdown his precious Jacksonville convention is a clear recognition that Florida is a global epicenter of the pandemic now, thanks to Desantis

This thread that you started kinda back-fired, didn't it.

But the kids should go back to school of course.

A charted display of both of those metrics indicates as much. Data show that the state was apparently undercounting thousands of cases between early and mid-June, after which through the end of June and into early July it began posting what were presumably the backlogged cases it had missed in the prior weeks.

____________

Translation: FL under reported in June; June cases get thrown in with July and bingo—‘looming July catastrophe’. The reality is the numbers over the two months are either stable or maybe a slight up tick in July.

Good article on what I mentioned in another thread about ‘COVID counting’ and how it’s reported by the much of the media.

Just a reminder of how wrong you were yet again.

The right always messes up. The left usually does too. We badly need a viable centrist party, one that bases its policies on reason instead of dogma.
