Biden's Town Hall and a return to decency & discourse

Hello JDAM,

PBS did not slant it at all. There was no report of the event on PBS. Apparently they didn't even consider it newsworthy.

I gather from that that it wasn't really a town hall at all. It was a selected audience question and answer session hosted by a commercial news network. President Biden probably agreed to it because he felt that they would not be overly aggressive, and it would be a way to straight-talk to the public and make his first network appearance. The network did it to sell advertising and the president did it to get exposure in a different way than his predecessor who is now seen in an unfavorable way.

Man, what a breath of fresh air that was. For starters, Biden actually cares about people - his compassion and concern for others is apparent anytime there is an interactive event like this. Trump's supporters used to say he "speaks like us," but Biden actually WAS like us, with bills he couldn't pay and worries about finances. He really listens to people and their concerns in a forum like that.

And he didn't attempt to candycoat anything or dismiss hard questions outright. They had questions from both his own supporters and those who voted for Trump. When the latter asked a tough question, he didn't say it was "nasty" or try to marginalize the individual in any way.

One Trump voter asked about the minimum wage increase and how it might negatively impact his small business. Biden wasn't dismissive, and he didn't try to candycoat it or gloss over the guy's concerns like Trump would with generalities and unfounded optimism. He acknowledged that it was a legit concern, cited studies that showed it could have the opposite effect, and talked about implementing the change gradually to minimize negative impact. He knew all aspects of the issue (another big change from the last 4 years).

What a change.

We'll see what you think in 6 mos...lol!

I didn't think he would be too bad, but Biden is an absolute disaster!
He or whoever is controlling him must hate Americans, because everything he's done so far will hurt citizens of America.

Hello Big Money Dolla,

Another new login name? Why not just pick one you can live with and stick with it...

I watched a liddle bit of it. No surprises. Just as I expected. I think Biden is a good man, doing a generally good job.

One thing I don't like about him is he is too cozy with big banks. I heard he was being criticized for not wanting to forgive student loans. That was no surprise. I wouldn't expect him to. He was the one who got the provision written into law that student loans could not be wiped out with a bankruptcy. Kudos to Liz Warren for taking pot shots at him. Democrats stand up for what they believe in even if it is not popular in the party. Democrats think for themselves, are not told what to think by party mandates. This differentiates them from Republicans, who have to tote the party line or get dumped.

1. I have my reasons, and one of them is a creepy cyber stalker who is making trouble for me here on JPP. expect me to change it every ten days.

2. you did not notice him struggling, rambling off topic then forgetting the questions? you did not see cooper having to wrangle him several times? you didn't see any of that?

3. Biden is an establishment puppet nothing more nothing less other than his clear cognitive crisis.

I noticed what sounded like honest unscripted answers, which is a refreshing change from politicians who never even try to answer reporter questions, only pivot to prepared agenda. He's no slick-talker, which at this point is VERY refreshing.

As I said, I am aware of his too-cozy relationship with big banks. That is why he was not my first choice. But hey. We Democrats rarely get to have a party candidate who we feel like they really represent us, so we have to accept the ones we elect. But that's real. That's expected in a party with such diversity. Everyone is not going to agree and coalesce around one person. That only means we are a collection of people who have different perspectives and we are trying to do our best to figure out what is the most viable policy to enact. Biden has a tough job of trying to pull together a lot of different factions. I give him high marks for doing that, and for being honest with all Americans about the challenges we face as a big diverse country with heavy issues.

He had an earpiece in so it was semi scripted. if you thought he looked mentally sound and not a rambling mess we can agree to disagree.

Hello Big Money Dolla,

He had an earpiece in so it was semi scripted. if you thought he looked mentally sound and not a rambling mess we can agree to disagree.

But at least we can do it in a cordial way, knowing that we both want a vibrant prosperous nation and a secure community to live in where people can have a happy life.
