Alabama Has The Worst Poverty In The Developed World

Not an easy question obviously as many smart people have spent centuries trying to answer it. If I had a really good answer I'd be fabulously wealthy. haha. ...

I believe there are different ways to target each of those groups. We could obviously get into waaay more detail about how.

So how do we begin to discuss it if even the mention of poverty gets shut down -- almost always by conservatives -- with various stupid cliches. One of my favorite is "Jesus said the poor will always be with us." Maybe He did, maybe He didn't, but He also instructed His followers to do something about it instead of pretend they doesn't exist, or blame the people in poverty themselves. This is a very similar discussion like that of climate change. Conservatives in the U.S. don't want to hear about it, think it's some made-up bullshit (just look at that cretin Shape-shitter or whatever he goes by now). Fine, pretend it doesn't exist, remove all mention of it from govt. websites. So how, exactly, are we going to deal with rising seas, fiercer storms, displaced populations, drying ag lands, etc. ?

There is not much difference Althea. One tends to be the carrier of the other. It happens everywhere in America not just certain places which was the point of the OP. That should not be.

He's full of sh*t. He thinks because he votes Democratic it means he's compassionate and that he cares regardless of the results of the legislation he supports.

How else? Cut taxes on corporations, and remove all EPA restrictions.

You have a better idea?

Do you disagree with what I said about the different levels of poverty and we should attack them differently? Or should it be a one size fits all for everyone?

Not sure where I said there wasn't poverty or that I said anything about conservatives saying there is no poverty. I thought you were asking a question to me not a Dem/Rep question.

You're kind of an idiot .. which explains why you're a republican.

YOU inject race into the conversation .. then you run like a rabbit from the truth.

Cowardly.

Thanks for the conversation. Explains a lot.

Whatever dude. Why don't you read what I responded too before saying I injected race in the equation. Check yourself before calling others names. And you are still lying about the meme. Typical ignorant socialist.

Typically ignorant and COWARDLY republican.

The question was just too fucking hard .. and revealing.

Thanks

I hope you are sitting down Cypress as this may cause you a feinting spell. I happen to agree with you on this.

I appreciate that.
And I am actually not totally surprised.

I don't think it is actually that much of a partisan issue. Making sure all our citizens have an adequate baseline standard of living, have the basic infrastructure, and educational opportunities befitting a great nation....this doesn't seem like a liberal or conservative proposition. It is what should be expected as basic human decency, basic human rights commensurate with a wealthy nation.

You are a smart person Cypress. Hard not respect someone that thinks this way. Have a good evening.

Yes, I agree that there are different reasons that various people are in poverty, absolutely. I also agree that a one-size-fits-all approach isn't efficient or particularly helpful.

For instance, the one group you mentioned that for whatever reason (mental illness, mental and/or physical abilities) will probably never be self-sufficient. We might as well face that fact, and offer them enough to keep them fed, healthy, sheltered.

How do you do that, though, when you have people like the current crop of conservatives insisting that they're "slackers," "moochers," "looters," etc.? -- And who control the National Wallet?

I know, as long as its racism by Democrats its all good with you.

Edit: And way to run from lying about your meme.

Running :0)

I doubt you even know what cognitive dissonance means .. because if you did, you'd recognize that is exactly what you're doing.

Run away mr. cowardly

Tell me again about how racist democrats are while you run like your ass is on fire from the truth of your own racist fucking party.

On the other hand .. don't. Just run the fuck away mr cowardly.

See BAC I don't deny there are racists in the Republican Party. Never have. But any racist in the Democratic Party you defend. Because politics matter more than anything else to you. It's your God.

And you are still lying about the meme.

I've been to Oakland, and while it has its share of problems, I have never seen anything like this there:

That speaks to what the UN dude is saying: this is the kind of stuff that is really not seen in developed nations. This is the kind of thing you might see in the developing world. And even then, only in the worst, most impoverished areas.

It is inexcusable to have this kind of poverty in our great nation. Just my opinion, but not sure if conservatives share it.

What are you personally going to do about it?
