Yes, I agree that there are different reasons that various people are in poverty, absolutely. I also agree that a one-size-fits-all approach isn't efficient or particularly helpful.
For instance, the one group you mentioned that for whatever reason (mental illness, mental and/or physical abilities) will probably never be self-sufficient. We might as well face that fact, and offer them enough to keep them fed, healthy, sheltered.
How do you do that, though, when you have people like the current crop of conservatives insisting that they're "slackers," "moochers," "looters," etc.? -- And who control the National Wallet?
We made a national effort as a country with the War on Poverty starting in the mid '60's. What would you say the results have been and if you could change any of it what would it be?
