They aren't denied civil unions/marriage based on their gayness, ahahahahahahahaha, this is the best post yet! Dixie! I love the circular reasoning! I do, I really do! It is splitting hairs is what it is Dixie! Good spin Dixie, but you would so lose in a court of law with this argument!
Not splitting any hairs. Does "abortion" mean "murder?" Are the two words interchangeable? Certainly, some people would argue they are. Does that mean I should have the "right" to "abort" you for getting or giving abortions? Or maybe I should have the "right" to "abort" my neighbor for playing his stereo too loud... hey, it's an inconvenience for me... just like an unborn fetus is for you! Why isn't that the same thing? It's really quite simple, isn't it? Because "murder" and "abortion" are two different things, and society has not defined them to mean the same thing. The same is true with "marriage" and "same sex union" ...two different things, society hasn't defined them to be the same. You want to argue that "same sex union" means the same thing as "marriage" and it doesn't. But by insisting this definition has been established already, you can go on to make a case for some 'discriminatory' practice, which isn't happening. People are not granted marriage licenses on the basis of their sexuality. If that were the case, you'd have some kind of argument here, but that's not the case and you don't.
It's interesting you mentioned CU's... I favor CU's and think that is a way to facilitate the needs and allow the benefits for gay couples in America. Take government out of the "marriage" business completely, and instead, allow them to institute CU contracts. Yeah, I know, it's not the typical "social conservative" position on the issue, but it's my position, and I believe it could work. IF enough people were genuinely interested in fixing the problem for gay couples.... trouble is, activists such as yourself, would rather have the "issue" rather than solve it, because it gives you a hammer to bash the right with, and if it were solved... one less hammer in your toolbox. You care more about your political party and liberalism, than you do about gay couples and their rights.
