United Parcel Service on Tuesday said it would slash 20,000 jobs and shut 73 facilities as part of a planned reduction in deliveries for Amazon.com, and as U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs roil global trade.

A UPS spokesman said the layoffs are due to shedding 50% of shipping volume from Amazon.com, its largest customer, as well as ongoing cost-cutting and efficiency projects under a major operational restructuring.

An Amazon spokesperson said, “Due to their operational needs, UPS requested a reduction in volume and we certainly respect their decision."

Strange. Around here all Amazon deliveries are made by Amazon. Same in deep East Texas where our family farm is. Are you sure UPS isn't down sizing because Amazon is doing their own deliveries?
 
The move comes as Trump's aggressive trade policies have begun slowing economic growth and increasing expectations for a possible recession.

"The world hasn't been faced with such enormous potential impacts to trade in more than 100 years," CEO Carol Tome said on the company's earnings call.

As the world's largest parcel delivery firm, UPS touches a broad swath of industries and is seen as a gauge for the global economy. FedEx, its top rival, signaled a slowdown in March.

I say they have to put the blame where it belongs and that is right on Trump.

UPS’s move addresses two key challenges the company is facing, she said. One is that the U.S. small-package market is a “slow-growth market” with lower margins, and the second is growing concern over how much of UPS’s volume and revenue is concentrated with one customer.

Can you seriously not do without stuff made in China for a while. I know I can. Are you addicted to cheap Chinese slave made things? The whole idea of tariffs is giving the American worker a chance for a level playing field. I think we OWE the American worker that chance.

Their claim is Trump's policies didn't correct going 50 years of off-shoring overnight, and if they can't get what they want right away they're going to fall on the floor and hold their breaths until they get instant gratification of their idiot snivelings, like Mommy does when they want cookies and pot..
