“This country faces a pervasive, growing attitude of intolerance and hate — what I have referred to in the body politic as an American cancer,” Cuomo said in his bill-signing memo on Tuesday.

“By limiting the display and sale of the Confederate flag, Nazi swastika and other symbols of hatred from being displayed or sold on state property, including the state fairgrounds, this bill will help safeguard New Yorkers from the fear-instilling effects of these abhorrent symbols,” he said.

I don't think a governor should be able to ban flags, but as with COVID precautions, we have learned that Americans cannot be allowed to do whatever they want to do.

I agree that the Confederate flag is a symbol of hate, but should it be banned? I don't think it's the government's place to regulate symbols. If we want to be better, we need to be better, not be legislated into a fake better.

However way someone feels about this, considering the confederate rag is a un American representation of a barbaric regime that was destroyed over 140 years ago by the U.S., and for this barbaric symbol to be used as a motivator of hate, violence, murder, ignorance, treason and anything else of a un American nature at being a national security threat. I do not believe the framers of U.S. Constitutional law intended for first amendment rights to be perverted in order to protect atrocities and symbols that are there to destroy Democracy and what U.S. Constitutional law represents. I believe, 1st Amendment rights were created to defend peaceful protesting, freedom of the press and not un American propaganda, freedom of peaceful assembly but not a assembly to give aid and comfort to foreign enemies as in treason, etc.

I wasn't commenting on the state's demographics. I was commenting on the city and its historical forecast toward national demographics.

The flag didn't commit any atrocities. It represented some of them, but that isn't a crime. I wonder: What do you think should be the criteria for banning a symbol from view in the US?

I thought you knew, New York City and all of its boroughs are part of the demographics of the State of New York and are subject to state laws too. Also, New York City still has a majority of so-called non Hispanic white: New York City Demographics
