“By limiting the display and sale of the Confederate flag, Nazi swastika and other symbols of hatred from being displayed or sold on state property, including the state fairgrounds, this bill will help safeguard New Yorkers from the fear-instilling effects of these abhorrent symbols,” he said.

Yea as much as I detest the Battle Flag of the ANV and that it needs to be relegated to the dustbin of history this attempt is misguided.

This is America and Freedom of Speech is Constitutionally protected and people have the right to be stupid, ignorant and hateful in their speech.

I’d say the same about Flag burning. I think it’s an asinine thing to do and as long as it doesn’t create a danger to public safety then they have a Constitutional right to do something stupid like that.

Now that’s a crock of BS unless you mean erasing the revisionist lies of Neoconfederate Lost Cause Mythologies that I constantly hear wannabe Rebels blowing smoke and ignorance about.

The State of New York sacrificed more human lives and treasure ending Confederate treason than any State in the Union so their scorn towards these symbols of treason and inhumanity and the revisionist lies propagated to support them by folks who are ignorant of the facts is completely understandable.

This may be a misguided law and is probably Unconstitutional but it certainly understandable why they would be utterly offended by anyone stupid enough to Fly the colors of treason in their State after all the sacrifices they made to end it.

I'm sure Cuomo knows about what New York went throughin the Civil War, since his grandparents were Italian immigrants.

Nearly half of NY is Italian & Irish.

Almost all came at the end of the Civil War.

Although the Irish Catholics here during the Civil War didn't care for Lincoln & Blacks much.
Look at the Draft Riots.

As for Italians they still didn't like Blacks in far more recent times.

Famous incidents being of Italian mobs attacking Blacks in Bensonhurst & Howard Beach.
