Well, we like to believe this, anyways. It's pretty similar to Europeans coming to the western hemisphere and declaring that they were superior to the indigenous humans, or ancient Romans conquering territories in the British Isles and declaring themselves superior.

Intelligence, social skills, communication, mastery of our environment there are numerous animals equal to humans. We just like to think in our arrogance that we are completely unique. Only tools set us apart.

If we were truly intelligent, we would use our superior intellects for good rather than evil. And by "good," I mean the benefit of all of Earth's lifeforms, not just the ones we think are tasty, pretty, useful, entertaining, or lovable. This isn't just tree-hugger crap. It's basic common sense.

Even birds, who you no doubt see as inferior (even though they have lived on this planet millions of years longer than we H. sapiens have), don't shit in their nests.
