I have a difficult time discussing anything with insane people. To believe in magical beings, as you do, requires a level of insanity that I am not willing to recognize as a viable alternative to rational thought.

The principals can sound rational while giving credence to magical supernatural thinking if they choose their words carefully enough and tiptoe around the elephant in the room.
I insist that magical thinkers be willing to recognize that what they believe in requires a suspension of their ability to think rationality.

I'm a scientist and a christian. How do you reconcile that? What you present is an utterly false dichotomy which I personally, as both someone educated in science and as a christian reject.They are not mutually incompatible belief systems.

I grew up in a community of scientists, most of whom were Christians. That was, of course 50+ years ago. My dad was a scientist and a Christian as well. I suspect though that Nordberg is correct and that most current scientists tend towards atheism. Just like American politics, Christianity has become polarized as well.

BTW, back then most of the scientists we knew were Republicans. I bet that is not true today, among current scientists.

It's quite possible that we may prove to be entirely too clever for long-term survival. You only have to look at the huge island-sized masses of plastics and other debris in our seas, what we've done to our inland fresh water lakes that renders them undrinkable, patches of Earth so polluted that living there would kill us, etc. We have taken some strides in the northern hemisphere to clean the air and water, but of course in the U.S. one particular party is working OT to try to abolish many of the environmental regulations. Even if the (R)s weren't bent at business-at-any-cost, can we overcome all the toxins being poured onto the planet, into the atmosphere, and into the seas by other countries?

Call me a tree-hugger (please do, really) -- but I would rather have whale song, then the "convenience" of a plastic water bottle produced in a factory destroying our planet, by our self-anointed superior species.
