A lot of purists hate the new country. Some of it doesn't even sound as country as the Eagles - it's pretty much pop.
I like a lot of the songs, though; still like some of the traditional stuff, as well - though the twangy "my wife left me and my dog died" stuff doesn't appeal to me...
C'mon....listen to the lyrics of George Jones' "He stopped loving her today"...one of the ultimate "crying in your beer" songs. Excellently crafted song...and effective. I love storytelling songs.
You're right about the Eagles thing though....it was really the best point of comparison that I could think of....I blame Hank Jr. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of his stuff....but he laid the groundwork for the stuff that's on the radio now.
