Have you ever been proud of your race?

Yes. I have felt proud of the human race. The moon landing. Mars rovers. Voyager leaving the solar system.

Those were feats achieved by patricians. If you want to see the accomplishments of the other 95% of the human race, just turn on Wreality TV or 5:00 News.

In the post mortem of this weekends verdict, I expected the typical hand wringing and teeth gnashing from our board race hustlers.

But, a statement has cropped up more than a few times that I find puzzling. I have heard people say "I am ashamed to be white" and that if others didnt share their level of shame theynwere racist. Now is this just a rhetorical flourish in an effort to curry favor with our resident blacks? Or is this a real full fledged emotion?

You see I don't think I have ever, ever had feelings of pride or shame over my skin color. I have no contro over ny skin color so why would I be ashamed or proud of it?

Saying you are ashamed to be white seems like a racist thing to say because you are basing an emotion off of a skin color.

Why didn't the females say they were ashamed to have vaginas since we had an all female jury? Wouldn't that have been an equally qualifying statement? Or is the only way to curry favor with our board Malcom X to denounce ones race

I wonder if BAC or Poet ever feel ashamed to be black.

those who are saying that they are ashamed to be white fail to realize that George Zimmerman is MIXED RACE:

He is White, Black, Hispanic and Jewish

He's is more Black and Hispanic then White... based on Genetic percentages.

Here's someone we can all be proud of.

I am dying here, love this description.

C'mon now, I ought to groan both of you. I'll give you Reba M. and Dolly, ... and that guy who's always "On The Road Again" (and probably Topper's hero) Willy Nelson.... They're all pretty hard to listen to ... but give me George Strait, Toby, Garth, Taylor, Carrie, Tim, Faith and the gang any day. That isn't to say I don't like the good stuff like the Eagles, CCR, and even a little Bruce. But y'all can keep the Red Hot Chili Pepper type music for your light Sunday afternoon listening if it is OK. :)

I despise new country....it all sounds like warmed over Eagles (one of my favorite bands, BTW) with either stupid redneck lyrics or over-emotional teenie bopper wailings.

Don't you besmirch Willie, never Willie! He is Cannibus Country!

George Strait makes my ears bleed. The others aren't bad, but really aren't my cup of tea. I like Sugarland and Lady Antebellum

I'm not a big Red Dirt fan and don't like the Big an Rich type of music, but I'm not a drinker or partier either, which is what a lot of them appeal to. Most of my favorites are from before my time: Cash, Horton, Dean, even Acuff and others from that era. But I do like some of the modern stuff on a song by song basis.

I like some of those two as well ... but you can definitely have Willie the weed man. And his love of grass ain't why I don't like him, I love Johnny Cash and we know about his drugs and all. No, I think Mott mentioned something about women singing through their nose...nah, he definitely got the wrong gender there. He had to be thinking of Willie. ;)

Johnny Cash was a genius, see, we could listen to Johnny!

Me too....anything at the roots level....old time country, acoustic blues, bluegrass, folk.

A lot of purists hate the new country. Some of it doesn't even sound as country as the Eagles - it's pretty much pop.

I like a lot of the songs, though; still like some of the traditional stuff, as well - though the twangy "my wife left me and my dog died" stuff doesn't appeal to me...

Nope, never was a big fan of the Tammy Whynots and D-I-V-O-R-C-E songs ... But I do like some of the twang. Cain't help it, it's in my blood. :)
