Well we got this week’s school shooting in the books early

No I'm not ...that's exactly what this thread is... not letting a good tragedy go to waste..read the OP... I agree with "part of the problem" ... but there's always been access to guns and that has not been an issue in the past... so what really needs to be "cured' are the other parts of the problem...

That’s not true, semiautomatic weapons were not available, nor particularly marketed, prior to the ban, but since, the proliferation of such has made it the number weapon of choice in mass shootings

And school/mass shootings were not as common, neither was the sheer number of guns of available nor the easy access to that number

Poor anchovies, semi-automatic firearms have been available for well over a century.

But not marketed to the public nor mass produced prior to the lifting of the ban, there was a reason initially they had a “M” and later “MP” in front of their name

Try to keep up “copy”

I would limit the production, sale and importation of weapons capable of murdering groups of children. I would limit possession of such weapons and certain types of ammo. I would bring back mental health hospitals and spend more money on mental health counseling in schools. I would provide support for struggling families. I would expand red flag laws.

Which weapons specifically murder "groups of children"? What types of ammo would you allow? I agree with the mental health stuff. Not sure what "support for struggling families" means. And which red flag laws? Who decides what's a "red flag"?

So when did the semi-automatic weapons become "available" and when did they begin to Market them? Guns in general were always easy access... I taught for 30 years in schools where there were often shootings in the neighborhood ...we never had any problem in our schools at all...though we did confiscate the occasional weapon...

As usual, the point went right over your head

Not a question of what to ban, what ammo should be outlawed, it is all about access to guns, how easy it is for nearly anyone in America to obtain a gun, even those on the terrorist watch list can get one legally. And you are going to tell us that ain’t a problem

Well given the usual response to these frequently occurring events it sure seems you really don’t care about doing much to preventing them, “prayers and condolences” don’t change anything

And your op shows you don't care at all or you wouldn't have posted such a crude remark in the time of a terrible tragedy...

That lying pendejo wants to exploit a tragedy by denying Second Amendment rights to citizens who never use their guns illegally.

These loons have no interest in the tragedy, just exploiting it.

Poor anchovies, pre-ban, guns were actually brought to schools for show and tell, some were shot in physics classes, and anyone who was a Boy Scout paged through Boys Life monthly magazine admiring the Winchester and Remmington ads. Your prejudice blocks your brain from functioning properly.

All good and legitimate questions

They love seeing these shootings

Ban on semi automatic weapons, which was passed by a GOP led Congress, expired in 2004, and the gun manufacturers started to promote them immediately after cashing in after 9/11. Mass production flowed thereafter, especially when Obama got elected in 2008

Access to guns was not as easy as it is today, especially given mere number of guns out there, more guns in circulation than there are Americans

Indeed.

My friends would often bring a new rifle or shotgun to the school parking lot to show their friends.

No shots were ever fired. No school children were ever harmed by a gun.

Mentally disturbed adults and children are allowed to walk the streets and kill at will.

The left has always been against institutionalizing those with mental issues.

I blame the left.

With kids getting killed at an alarming rate I think it is beyond politeness, offering “prayers and condolences” has proven to do nothing other than kick the can down the road
