Women Need To Carry Guns When Going Out Alone.

Really, when they ambush you on the trails while jogging? Do you ask them to wait while you whip out your gun? Do you jog with it in your hands, ready to fire? Do you leave your house locked and loaded as you go to and from work on the night shift?

I want to hear how a woman should do this?

Women may care a gun, a guy may carry a gun, but the element of surprise always has the advantage in most cases.

Mollie wasn't ambushed. She was attacked and abducted in broad daylight in a residential neighborhood. She told her assailant to leave her alone. She had plenty of time to pullout a gun and scare him away or if he was still crazy enough to attack her to shoot him.

You better go back and read the account. You got a few details wrong. She was home doing homework at 10 pm, the attack happened after that.

Hey einstein. Guns are LONG-RANGE weapons and women can safely use them. So too with bear spray (not some dinky can of mace) - they are good out to 30 feet.

Knives are a bad choice for a woman since she has to get within a few feet of the guy and yes, he may well take the knife from her.

How does one attack a woman longe range?

What a fucking idiot. The board notes you are the stupidest motherfucker on the forum. :rofl2:

Men have been known to take guns away from women, too. Guns aren’t a guaranteed to keep you safe.

Well I stand corrected but you'll never admit otherwise that her chances of survival would have increased dramatically if she had been armed.

She should have been especially after 10pm at night.

"Would be"?

Logical fallacy. Hypothesis Contrary to Fact.

Failure

Liberals DO NOT want private citizens to own or carry guns. Doesn't matter how many americans have to die because they are unarmed. Liberals continue to push this fantasy that if guns are removed, crime will dissipate dramatically.

If women can manage to jog with a water bottle, an i pod, and a cell phone, they can certainly also manage to carry a small caliber pistol.

No doubt. However, there's no reason to imagine that will make us any safer. Again, guns are worse than useless if someone gets the jump on you. If I've got a small caliber pistol in a jogging pouch and some guy jumps out at me and pins me, it's not going to be doing me any good.... and it may actually increase the likelihood that I wind up dead, if in the process of trying to rob my stuff, he finds the gun, or if I try to reach for it and we struggle with the gun and he ends up overpowering me. Even if I somehow manage to draw the gun and shoot him, with a small caliber pistol, there's always the risk that I merely manage to wound him, and he responds to that by killing me. And that's not even to get into the risk that I manage to accidentally shoot myself or some innocent bystander -- for example, fumbling with the gun when I'm shaky at the end of a long run and managing to set it off. There are around 7,000 accidental shooting deaths per year in this country, and several times that many serious injuries.

If you have some statistical evidence that women who carry guns tend to be less likely to be victims of violence, I'm open to it. But in light of statistical evidence showing that people in households that have guns are MORE likely to be victims of violence, it's not at all clear that carrying a gun will make a woman safer.

Again, you are wrong, the liberals who wish to do away with guns is a very low percentage. I just want responsible gun ownership.

Do beg your masters to let you out to see the civilised world, there's a good nutter!

it is incumbent upon EVERY individual, man or woman, to learn how to defend onesself with and without a weapon like a knife or a firearm. there is no 'safe' in this world. key things everyone should maintain are 'situational awareness' at all times. always be aware of and know your surroundings. that means know the people USUALLY in your area when you run/jug. KNOW your environment, i.e. where trails go, water sources, hiding places, etc. The more familiar one is with where they are, the better chances at escaping if necessary. Secondly, and no less important, is violence. learn how to use it, with hands, feet, head, and weapon. it's a million times better to get violent immediately, than to take a second and figure out what violence to use afterwards.

using weapons isn't any different than using tools. they are implements designed to increase your chances at survival during a violent encounter.

for the pacifist minded or the gender weakness ideology bound, you're free to implement your own versions of being safe, but they don't work for everyone and you have no right to force it on others.

Just about every day, a woman somewhere in the vicinity of Philly Cheesesteak risks happening upon him while walking alone.

There are practical ways to make yourself safer. For example, if you can afford it, move to a safer state, city, or neighborhood. Defend yourself against preventable harm by wearing a seat belt, obeying traffic laws, not smoking, not drinking immoderately, not overeating or being sedentary, wearing sunscreen, eating a well-balanced diet, wearing a helmet when biking, etc. These things all have statistically demonstrable benefits in making a person safer. Does carrying a gun have such benefits? Where's the evidence?

As for "situational awareness," that's obviously a good thing. A jogger should be aware of potential dangers -- and that doesn't just mean humans who might harm her. Be aware of the risk of heat exhaustion, of being out in the open in a lightning storm, of suffering a heart issue without quick rescue, of jogging across a street without checking for oncoming traffic, etc.

If you're frightened and having a gun along as a kind of safety totem helps you deal better with that fear, that's fine. I'm just pointing out that it's likely a false sense of security, and that, in fact, it may be making you less secure.

One thing self-defense classes always teach is the situational awareness that you mentioned, and also appearing focused on your environment and surroundings, alert and watchful. Predators look for distracted prey -- someone jogging with headphones on, oblivious to everything. Someone digging through their purse or looking at their phone, or walking with their head down and not looking around, in their own little world. If you're doing these things, having a gun in your purse or pocket isn't going to be of much use if you are suddenly assaulted from behind by someone you were unaware of.
