No way it was staged.

While I agree that it might boost interest in the Oscars, I can't see a scenario where Will Smith, his agent or anyone else who works w/ him would ever think that was a good idea for his career. He went from one of Hollywood's nice guys to kind of a pariah in an instant.

I'm sure he'll move past it, but it will take some time & some work. I can't see why he would sign up for that.
