Will Cities Survive 2020?

Again your cognitive issues show up your inability to focus on a topic just makes everybody around you feel pity for you

Did the voices in your head tell you that, grandpa?

In case you were incapable of comprehending what I'm posting in my thread, maybe you could ask someone younger to help you understand what it's about.

The analytics firm INRIX estimates that in 2018, American commuters spent 97 hours a year on average in gridlock, collectively costing them $87 billion worth of wasted time.

As America digs itself out of a coronavirus hysteria-induced recession, it is easy to imagine that this traffic trend will only grow worse in America's densest metro areas.

Crowding into a sealed train car with a bunch of strangers hardly sounds appealing in the middle of a pandemic, particularly when everywhere you might want to go is closed.

For that reason, public transit ridership plunged some 80 percent across major American cities, according to the app Moovit.

Individual transit agencies in New York City, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C., have reported declines of 90 percent or more.

Again your cognitive disability shows up you really need to take a nap. I much prefer to go with what the smart people say then what someone like you says and the smart people say Tesla has a range of 320 to 350 MI any commute beyond that is insufferable in fact 320 mi is an insufferable commute

The people at Car and Driver one of the leading magazines on everything automobile aren't "smart?" Okay... Whatever you want to believe...

Jefferson’s view that cities were hothouses of epidemics was, of course, correct.

Maps of the novel coronavirus in the United States confirm his view that rural places are healthier than urban centers and conurbations.

So far, the virus has had the greatest impact on the two coasts of America, particularly in New York, Seattle, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Los Angeles.

Jefferson understood, as did few of his contemporaries, that in times of pandemics, economic crisis, and war, cities are powder kegs.

Yeah, well keep in mind Jefferson wasn’t right on a lot of things, and last I checked America is noted for a lot accomplishments coming out of rural Virginia

Inane, even for you.

He was right about urban shitholes being pits of pestilence.

Yeah, it takes a real Einstein to figure out ailments spread by social contact are probably going to effect more in cities than rural areas, about just as much insight to generalize that sex with animals is more prevalent on farms because cities have large numbers of women present

Unfortunately for you, Anchovies, this thread isn't about your sexual fantasies.

The data shows that many urbanites are belatedly bailing on big shitty cities.

A research firm called MyMove analyzed migration patterns since the start of the Wu Flu pandemic panic.

They analyzed the number of change-of-address notices filed with the United States Postal Service.

They found that Blue urban shitholes are hemorrhaging residents.

Naturally, larger cities would always tend to have large people migrating away, so, to correct for that bias, they compared this year’s change-of-address notices to last year’s.

Here's what they found:

  • Chicago’s change-of-address filings more than doubled over last year’s for the period from February 1st to August 1st
  • New York City - up 490%;
  • San Francisco - up 180%;
  • Los Angeles - up 96%;
  • Washington D.C. - up 160%;
  • Houston - up 60%;
  • Philadelphia - up 60%.

That's bad news for you, Anchovies, if many of the refugees fleeing those DEMOCRAT-dominated urban shitholes share your erotic peccadilloes. You might have to stand in line behind that sheep, goat, or pig instead of having them all to yourself.

what a lot of the increase is is younger people moving back home with their parents because they're out of work because your guy pooched the economy and pandemic so bad

Or do you have some data to back it up, old man?

If millennials once piled into the cities, fueling downtown renewal and growth, apparently they are now piling out.

The stay-at-home orders brought on by coronavirus have more potential homebuyers looking for properties in the suburbs. Millennials are now the largest cohort of buyers.

As the real estate market began to recover in May, home searches in suburban zip codes jumped 13%, according to realtor.com, one of the largest real estate listing websites. That's more than double the pace of growth in urban areas.

“This migration is not a new trend, but it has become more pronounced this spring,” said Javier Vivas, realtor.com director of economic research.

Contracts on Manhattan apartments plunged 80% annually in May, according to Jonathan Miller of real estate appraisal firm Miller Samuel.

“There’s no question that there are people who are fleeing the cities. There’s no question that the second home has been a place of refuge. There’s no question people are rethinking whether they want to be in high rise rentals with common spaces as amenities vs. having a home of their own with a backyard,” said Stuart Miller, chairman and former CEO of Miami-based Lennar.

Yea, that's what the company claims. There have been plenty of pros who have reviewed Musk's products and said he's overclaiming...

Top Gear has repeatedly panned Tesla on their range claims and Musk has been unable to prove them wrong in court.

Tesla's lawsuit alleged a loss of $171,000 in sales as a result of the bad press on Top Gear was ultimately thrown out of British courts for failing to prove that the segment actually caused any damages, despite company claims.

Tesla Model S makes most misleading range claim
WhatCar? also tested the Tesla Model S 75D, which claims the longest range of the group with 304 miles. However, it delivered just 204 miles in testing – making it the worst performer in terms of accuracy.

Tesla Fails Again In Suing Top Gear For Mocking Tesla's Range
We've never quite understood the strategy of electric automaker Tesla to sue the BBC and Top Gear because of an episode that involved a Tesla roadster, which the Top Gear crew mocked, at one point claiming it only got 55 miles before the batteries ran out of juice. This was a marginally amusing segment on a show that's known for tossing around a (somewhat joking) insult or six about lots of cars.

EPA denies claims over Tesla Model S range test, Elon Musk responds
https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/elon-musk-tesla-model-s-epa-400-mile-ev/

A few days ago, Elon Musk claimed that the Tesla Model S was able to exceed 400 miles or 644 km, but that the EPA had made a mistake in the test protocol. The agency refutes this hypothesis.

I'll take the whole raft of experts and pros in the automotive world who have actually tested Musk's products in the real world over his often inflated marketing claims aimed at bringing in more investors. I guess you want to drink Musk's Kool-Aid however...

These people have left big cities for good

As the coronavirus continues to dominate our day-to-day lives, people who are wealthy enough to leave major cities are increasingly looking for places to live with more space, fewer people and greater affordability.

Shifts are playing out in suburban areas around other major cities.

Norfolk County, outside of Boston, saw a 38% increase in new contracts for single-family homes in July over last year.

Collin County, Texas, outside of Dallas, saw a 58% increase.
San Bernardino County, outside of Los Angeles, saw a 62% jump and Marin County, outside of San Francisco, saw a 77% increase over last year.

Both San Francisco and New York saw 80% more people leave than move in during the months of March and June, according to a report from HireAHelper, an online marketplace for moving services.

The top destination by the number of overall people moving in was Florida, it found.

In the suburbs outside New York City, like the Hudson Valley and the Catskills, the demand to buy a home is so intense that traffic jams form around hot properties and altercations erupt among agents angling to get their clients in to see the homes.
