Where are the protest bands and artists?

It took brass huevos to do what they did, considering the hyper jingo genre they market to.

I friggin' love the Dixie Chicks. They absolutely did not back down, one iota.

And they've been vindicated, though most who criticized them probably won't admit that now.

My bad. I thought you could answer questions. You're not a lawyer. If you are, you would never have made the above post.

I don't know why people like you have to lie about the lives on an anonymous message board.

Ok, you've had your say. Now can you stop or are you obsessed.

Putting on the ritz isn't a protest song, fat plutocrat pig!

WTF?

Liberal democrat socialist pigs hate truth. Liberal fascist pigs can not dispute the truth. That's why they shut down free speech on college campuses and create safe zones to shield them from reality.

What happened to the Dixie Chicks was embarrassing. They can rip the President wherever they want to. And yes, you can say people can boycott them as a result, and they can - but I'd rather see them offer up a better idea, rather than just trying to shut them up.

And all of those idiots were wrong; there is no disputing that now, at all. In hindsight, by shutting down the voices of opposition, all they were doing was perpetuating a mistake - and it was a mistake that hurt a lot of people.

Ok but they didn't create protest music which is what the OP was discussing

there are few singer/songwriters now, and damn fewer actual musicians performing with them..
You are not going to get protest songs out of a generation that is clueless about the blues or war

Kind of a hairsplit, isn't it? "Dixie Chicked" is in the lexicon now, and it certainly applies to artists who speak their minds, regardless of whether it's in a public forum or in a song...

Who else has it applied to? Didn't Bruce Springsteen come out with an anti-Trump song? Rappers certainly have. Has the Dixie Chicks prevented Rage Against The Machine from coming out with another album?

Bruce Springsteen doing Chimes of Freedom is about as up to date as this crowd gets. Their music and their causes are stuck in 1968.

I like that music too, but there is no art imitating life going on. Protests have been constant since Sanders, operation Wall Street, police civil rights violations in Baltimore, gun nut in charleston, and now a plutocrat liar tv star casino potus who coordinated with Russians to beat the better democrat candidate who fills his cabinet with his unqualified kids, golfs all day, tweet nonsense all night, attack our press, our intelligence when it suits him...

Plenty to write about. Yet all pop culture reflects is pablum from telegenic kids warbling vapid pop.

You seem upset.

Do you need a hug?

And neither is "We're in the money!"

By the way, how dare Limbaugh use "Middle of the road"

The message from the music industry is still stuck on ... hate whitey, worship thuggery, having a job means you're a sellout, and treat women like bitches and ho's.

Today's "artists" are merely performers. Gone from the vast majority of music produced today is the kind of artistry and soul that was found in the best music of the 60s and 70s. Modern artists are more about the money than the craft. Just my opinion, but I'm right and you know it. Can you imagine some of today's musicians trying to put together some original thoughts of their own? They know better than to reveal their minimal understanding of things outside the recording studio.

Nothing has been as high-profile as the Chicks, but that was a combination of how fraught w/ emotion that time period was, as well as the politics of the country music audience. And the backlash shut a lot of artists up, which is a reason we don't see it very frequently.

There has been backlash against Springsteen - not just for the song, but for campaigning for Hillary. With a band like Rage, there is a lot more that they can get away with - their audience expects controversy.

Fuck me rigid, artists like Beyonce just care about the loot. She whored for Ghaddafi's son as did Niki Minaj for that bastard José Eduardo dos Santos in Angola.

No, I'd just like to see what is supposed to be art elevate its game. Popular music used to have a counterculture element to it. This feels like the music of our times has reverted to the Reagan era ethos. There appears to be a disconnect.
Music used to be left of center, a bit dangerous. Now its misogynist rap or bubble gum worthy garbage. I know there are many artists with a conscience now, they just aren't popular. I don't know where the fault lies, I just noticed the disconnect.
I thought it was thread worthy.

If a rapper came out today with a pro-Trump song what type of response do you think it would receive from his core audience? Probably not all that dissimilar to what the Chicks got.
