Where are the protest bands and artists?

tinfoil is the man. And considering he doesn't like Trump i'm very surprised he's getting called out.

I'm only calling him out for trolling a lighthearted thread about music in our times with that damn Global warming debate. Don't we have enough of that?

That's kinda mankind's MO. Very few people actually respect other people's views when those views don't align with their own perception of rational. For instance, the climate debate about the hiatus (IPCC AR5 section 9.2) and whether Karl's adjustments really negate the observational record. Am I really being irrational by scoffing at scientists when they choose to adjust relatively more accurate temps from buoys towards the warm-biased temps taken from ship inlets? Their argument is that either way you choose to adjust the data to correct the bias, the trend remains the same. This is true. But it also ignores that it changes the location on the graph where the trend falls. The Karl adjustments add .6 degrees C to the temperature reconstruction. This is what is known as the pausebuster. A statistical decision. Choose to adjust the ship temps and there will still be that nasty hiatus staring at you when you're done.

Anyway, to the point, humans define themselves on their beliefs so it's only natural for people want others to share their views. LOL I tried to think of a better word than share. Sharing views is the opposite of what you're saying. Impose their views?

It's a sad thing to me. I've heard artists express views that I completely disagree with (on both sides of the political spectrum), but it in no way affects my views on their artistic endeavors, or my going to their concerts, buying their records or watching their movies. I remember listening to Hannity one time, and both he and a listener were sincerely lamenting that they couldn't watch "Shawshank Redemption" because Tim Robbins starred in it. I was genuinely perplexed.

I'll disagree w/ opinions and some will genuinely tick me off, but I'd hate to live in an echo chamber all of the time. I even learn something from those I disagree w/ at times (not here, of course).

Yep, that is textbook elaborate ruse and chicanery ^^^ used by your hardcore right wing chickenhawks to avoid service.

Legendary tough guy John Wayne never served a day in the US military and has long been accused of being a ‘draft dodger’
A shocking new book claims that he was so mesmerized by Dietrich, five years his senior, he refused to sign up fearing he would lose her
The Duke also feared military service might end his career by dragging on so long he would be too old to be ‘an action-oriented leading man’
He used an old shoulder injury as an excuse although it had never impacted his movie work as a stuntman
Eventually he regretted not doing his bit for his country and became a 'super-patriot' as a result, according to his second wife

And now you know...the rest of the story!

I love how liberal snowflakes would rather believe conjecture, instead of actual FACTS.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA

More like another Liberal Hatefest thread chocked full of socialist lies.

Ahh, ok fair enough. Didn't mean to pollute the thread. The only reason I included it was to speak about the point Thing1 made about consensus types (like you BTW) who demand pure thought. It's the most perfect example of the phenomenon. You should be proud to be a perfect example.

No need to apologise to a cretin like him.

During the divisive period of Vietnam and civil rights movement many artists joined in countering fascism and Republicans and Nixon. Protest bands abounded. Woodstock.... poets... visual arts... much had a political strain. We live in such times now with protracted war, an 🤡imperial 🐷 potus and a brain dead fascist Republican polity.

I'm disappointed the artists either don't exist in the folk blues soul and rock protest traditions or Madison Avenue doesn't see there is a need to elevate them.

Where have you gone joe DiMaggio?

They stood out because they were unique in opposing the war. Pretty much the whole hollywood is against trump so they dont stand out anymore. It has become the expected stance.

Why, you'd almost think that JFK and LBJ were Republicans, the way you talk.

What happened to the Dixie Chicks was embarrassing. They can rip the President wherever they want to. And yes, you can say people can boycott them as a result, and they can - but I'd rather see them offer up a better idea, rather than just trying to shut them up.

And all of those idiots were wrong; there is no disputing that now, at all. In hindsight, by shutting down the voices of opposition, all they were doing was perpetuating a mistake - and it was a mistake that hurt a lot of people.

A leftist badmouthing the boycott is pretty amusing, anywhere, but in this thread it really is delusional. Where have the 60s gone? I dunno, but, fuck boycotting, man!!

They all protested and made their opinions known before the election and mocked themselves silly as Trump won................Perhaps they are learning
