That's nice, but all friends who do this or that means nothing here.
The point being that there are a lot of views of what is orthodox.

nor do I believe that we want to use a religious definition of marriage.
QUOTE=maineman So you believe that God created the world in six days.
No....
You believe that Adam and Eve were the first two humans
yes.....
and that Eve was magically created from one of Adam's ribs ripped from his body.
No.....
You believe that these first two people had a couple of sons and they went out and married the daughters of other men.
No....
You believe that there was aflood that covered the whole world
No.....
and we are all, therefore direct descendants of Noah and his wife
yes.....
and ALL the animals on the planet are descendants of the pair of critters that Noah loaded aboard the Ark.
no......
You believe the bible.
I believe what the Bible communicates about a creating God and the plan he put in place to restore us to him after we fucked up.....
Got it.
no......you don't.....
The point being that there are a lot of views of what is orthodox.
what goes down your throat when two gays get married?/shrugs.....it isn't a religious definition......its been the definition of all society for thousands of years and I see no reason why some special interest group should shove their desires down the throats of everyone who doesn't agree with it.....
So you only believe SOME of the Bible....you get to decide which parts were written in a different time and place and, therefore, get to be winked at and considered allegorical, and which parts must absolutely be taken literally.
Got it.
what goes down your throat when two gays get married?
The point being that there are a lot of views of what is orthodox.
my problem is with people who argue "the Bible doesn't say....." when the words are there for everyone to read.....
In a way, you just proved his point.
....and yet some forms of eastern orthodox do not believe in the traditional doctrine of original sin. There are a core set of beliefs. Jesus is God in the flesh. The trinity. Salvation by faith in Christ...etc.
Everything??????....I believe everything the Bible communicates to us......I just find it amusing the things you try to put into it and insist on.....you and the Rev Phelps agree on many things that I do not.....
what goes down your throat when two gays get married?
Everything???
and yet, I'll bet you still wear cotton and polyester clothing together. I bet you still eat shellfish.
only if you agree with his requirement of literalism......he and the Rev Phelps get along on that......
he argues that unless you're willing to take everything in the Bible as narrative you aren't allowed to consider any of it......
You are redefining marriage. I don't accept it. It may be legal, but you can't make me believe it is marriage.
....and yet some forms of eastern orthodox do not believe in the traditional doctrine of original sin.
bullshit. What happens negatively in YOUR life when gays marry?of course that would be the way you want to go with this.....feel free, I'll just ignore your stupidity......
