What Phil Robertson DID do

Times change... Christianity changes, too. We don't strap non-believers on the rack anymore. No doubt, Torquemada thought he was a devout follower of Christ as well.

That is a secular response. Christians believe God's word never changes. Many people call themselves Christians and believe anything goes and don't really believe God's Word. They aren't Christians if they don't believe the bible.

There is a difference between Christ and Christianity. Christ never taught that, but Christians practiced it.

seriously?.....is it your argument then that hanging someone on a rack was a Christian thing to do?......would you then claim that when, for example, Ghengis Khan hung someone on a rack he was practicing Christianity?.......

There is a difference between Christ and Christianity. Christ never taught that, but Christians practiced it. I fully respect that some people do not like the whole gay thing. But I do believe gays should have the right to marry and have equal rights in our society.

Jesus said marriage is a man and a woman. That is also the Christian belief. Now there are people calling themselves Christian and marrying queers, but those are what Jesus would call wolves in sheep clothing. Fake.

that's your opinion.

Got it.

so, if you disagree, would you also say that those who reject what Charles Darwin taught are still evolutionists?......that those who reject Marx are still Communists?.......that you can reject the Koran and still be Muslims?......or is it only in the case of Christians that you can reject what the Bible says and remain Christians?......

are you suggesting that Torquemada did not consider himself to be a devout and faithful follower of Christ trying hard to do His will in the world?

....and here I would agree with you to a point. One can redefine Christianity so much it no longer bears any resemblance to what Jesus originally taught.

Christians believe the bible. You can't be a believer without believing the word of God. Period. I'll argue that point very well.

....cool....I have lots of conservative Christian friends who would agree with you. They just don't agree with each other as to what "believing the Bible" really means....

are you suggesting that Torquemada did not consider himself to be a devout and faithful follower of Christ trying hard to do His will in the world?

no.....I'm suggesting that what one considers himself to be has nothing at all to do with the doctrines of Christianity......was hanging someone on the rack a teaching of Christianity or a teaching of a 12th Century religious institution?.......

something which has recently been demonstrated in the argument that he would have tolerated gay marriage........

So you believe that God created the world in six days. You believe that Adam and Eve were the first two humans and that Eve was magically created from one of Adam's ribs ripped from his body. You believe that these first two people had a couple of sons and they went out and married the daughters of other men, wherever the heck THEY came from. You believe that there was a flood that covered the whole world and we are all, therefore direct descendants of Noah and his wife, and ALL the animals on the planet are descendants of the pair of critters that Noah loaded aboard the Ark.

You believe the bible.

Got it.

....and let me be perfectly clear. I do not believe THIS. There was no such thing as a worldwide flood. Evolution is real, get over it. The universe is billions of years old. You are perfectly free to believe it yourself if you wish. Phil Robertson is free to believe Homosexuality is wrong. I get that. I disagree with him. I also feel like he has the right to state his opinions in GQ magazine if he wishes. At the same time, I do not believe that people have the right to teach six day creationism in science class, nor do I believe that we want to use a religious definition of marriage.
