Upcoming election…

If one wants to be around smart, driven, entrepreneurial people with access to capital, it’s hard to beat San Francisco and Silicon Valley. The tech ecosystem here is second to none. People have left, only to come back because they can’t find that mix elsewhere.

What drives people away are the political excesses, the breaking point on crime and quality of life, and of course the cost of living.
All good reasons except why do they vote against their best interests?

Not being in NYC, I can’t say how many people are thinking, “I don’t really want to vote for a socialist, and I don’t like the current mayor, but I can’t vote for Cuomo because of the harassment charges, so I’ll vote for the socialist instead.”

This race has gotten a lot of attention, both for its national political implications and from a real estate perspective, but in what I’ve read the harassment issue hasn’t really come up (again, not to imply it's playing no role).

The Party already knew this about him. I’m not sure if they didn’t think it would hurt him, or just felt they didn’t have any better options.
Mostly because it's constantly on Fox News and Trump's comments. MAGA morons are outraged! LOL

These fucking idiots think anything left of Alt-Right is Leftist, Marxist, Communist, etc. I'm hoping a lot of them get what they deserve when the civil war comes. BAM! Right through the hat! :ROFLMAO:

They say people who live in the Midwest and South vote against their best interests.

It's just a different way of seeing things. Some I understand but just disagree with. Others I don't understand.

My point is that Mamdani is not a representative of the national democratic party, and NYC is not representative of Democratic voters.

MAGAts see the world in Black & White; you're either a MAGAt or you are a lefty, Marxist, Commie.

This is why they label me a Lefty; because I'm decidedly anti-autocracy and strongly pro-Constitution.

True. Let's watch the most obvious in years, that of the NYC Mayoral race.

I don’t agree with that. There’s a whole Bernie/AOC wing of the Democratic Party. They didn’t win the presidential nomination in 2016 or 2020, but it’s far more than a fringe following. And if a democratic socialist wins the mayoral race in the biggest city in America, that’s a major feather in their cap.

That’s why the national Democratic Party is paying close attention, and why you’re hearing pushback from more establishment and moderate voices within the party.

How do I know all this and you don’t?

QED. LOL

Mandamis lean toward socialism is overblown. The mayor is not a king, like Trump. He has to work within the confines of political possibilities. Being socialisty leaning means he likely will govern with the people in mind over the super wealthy. I am all for that.

That's one way to spin socialism, "caring for the people".

His opponent is a Democrat, Andrew Cuomo, a former governor of New York. Are you suggesting he only governs for the super wealthy?

My point is that the Biggest City in the United States is no representative of the Nation.

I know all the facts you listed, but come to a different conclusion. How do you not know that is possible?

I am not saying the national party shouldn't pay close attention, I am saying that its not representative of the nationwide Democratic party, and its silly to try to paint "Democrats" based on the Mayoral election of NYC, or one Congresswoman from NY, or one Senator from Vermont.

Cuomo used to be a favorite of mine, but I am glad he is not winning after the sexual harassment scandal.

I am glad morals still mean something.

This board is so much about us vs. them and dunking on everyone for political points that any form of rational discussion is pretty much long gone. So maybe you think I’m attacking your party, but I’m not.

What I’m describing is that this race is getting national attention because it highlights a very real split in the party between progressives and the establishment. The fact that national Democrats are weighing in shows it’s more than just a local story.

They could have chosen another establishment figure to run or support. It all goes back to the divide within the party.

I agree that there is such a split, its a huge tent.

My compliant, is that it is silly to try to use Mamdani as an example of the quentencial democrat.

The Trump Crew are trying to say that because NYC is likely to elect a socialist mayor under the Democratic ticket, that is what Democrats are, and it is silly.

When Democrats in NY support a Socialist/Communist supporter of terrorists, they can not be called progressives.

They are called Socialists and Communists.

But it is silly to paint a national party over what the voters of NYC chose.

Maybe a Socialist is what NYC needs, it seems like what the people are in favor of, and they know better than me.
