Yes indeed, one can leverage that wealth into buying a throng of adoring wingnuts, and if Susan McDougal and Stormy Daniels are to be believed, Trump is quite used to having to pay women for sex.
He can buy political support and sex with his wealth, but he cannot buy respect. I don't think the guy has any genuine friends, people who hold unconditional loyalty to him.

Well said, Stretch. The other point is that the rally has been advertised for some time, and many thousands have planned for this. Nobody knew when McCain was going to die, and how many other long-planned events by Republicans and Democrats are ALSO going ahead as planned, because it would be way too much of a disruption to cancel such events? Another point; by requesting Obama and George W. Bush deliver eulogies at his funeral, and not mentioning Trump, it was clear McCain did not want Trump there. Certainly that is how Trump would take it, as anyone would. So he had very good reason to not attend, and very good reason to continue with his rally.
