Dubya showed a nation he cared so little about the people of New Orleans, he couldn't be bothered to cancel his vacation.

Now Perry shows everyone in Texas that campaigning for President is more important than those burned out of their homes by wildfires.

You gotta LOVE those compassionate conservatives...LOL!

Republican presidential front runner Rick Perry is possibly facing criticism for his handling of Texas' wildfires.

According to Fox News, Perry skipped out on a scheduled press conference Saturday afternoon. There was no word on Perry's absence until after the event, when his office explained that the governor didn't want to make the audience wait around after the change of the event's location.

Perry attended a 9/11memorial service on Sunday and is scheduled to head back on the campaign trail on Monday. Although he has received some criticism for staying on the campaign trail while the wildfires occured in his state, Perry did decline to attend.

I really don't know what people expect politicians to do during these sort of things. Go out with a fire hose and try and fight the fire? Or Obama coming back for Irene. What exactly could he have done, walk out and negotiate with a hurricane? If the boss ain't around, someone can cover for him.

LOL...I'm sure he got plenty done while he and McCain shared cake...

answer the question: did bush cancel his vacation? you claimed in the OP he did not. are you going to stick with that story?

bush declared a federal state of emergency on the 27th, while on "vacation"

Perry likes to appear in jeans while showing off his cowboy boots and having hay bales strewn around his podium for him to lean on like he's some kind of REAL rancher, so YES, he should roll up his sleeves, grab a shovel and help out.

He also should help out because he slashed the budgets of the state's volunteer fire depts by 75%.

They don't have the equipment necessary to fight these fires, so I'm sure his help would be appreciated by those already putting their lives on the line.

Do you think he could change the budget now and have equipment out there in time to help?

What you really want is for him to go have a photo-op with firefighters so he can pretend he cares, which is pretty much what politicians do when on the scene of a disastor.

When Obama visited Tuscaloosa AL after the tornado it screwed up the disastor relief for the entire day. But at least the rest of the country could be proud that Obama "really cares about the people" and that he took time out to help the tornado victims.

He stayed on vacation for three days after Katrina came ashore before finally canceling it...by then New Orleans had been underwater for days.

What did you expect him to do?
Was he supposed to raise his hands and part the waters?
I thought that Obama was the only one who was supposed to be able to do this!

Like it or not it's a part of the job for Governors and Presidents to tour scenes of natural disasters.

People want to see the leaders they vote into office showing concern.

Perry is skipping out because he knows the flack he's going to get from the press over his evisceration of volunteer firefighter's budgets.

Right now the story isn't a national one, and he's doing everything in his power to keep it that way.

My god - is Yurt still trying to defend Bush's handling of Katrina?

What a mega-apologist...

did i say anything that isn't true? correcting lies and getting facts straight bothers you, i know. you're such an obama apologist that you have to project onto to others.
