The U.S. needs a democracy overhaul. Here’s what Biden’s first step should be.

Are you saying Trump should tell California to fuck off because he is not president of them? I don't understand why all elections but the presidential one can be by popular vote.
Because the President is the only national vote that we have. I suppose you want to apportion senators according to population also.

President-elect Joe Biden’s first acts should be to convene a high-level commission to recommend a democracy overhaul.

Maybe the cleanest way is simply to abolish the electoral college in favor of a straight national popular vote. Or maybe there is another idea — such as proportional allocation of electoral college votes between the top two candidates in each state — that makes more sense.

The commission should look at encouraging more voter participation. That could mean universal voter registration, which would make the process less arduous but potentially more secure, or making Election Day a holiday.

We need a democracy overhaul, Washington Post is correct.

Democracy isn’t working, nor will it without a Constitution overhaul. No matter how it’s tweaked, the present majority population wants a King, not a president beholden to anything but them. Obvious truth. You cannot fix a problem until you recognize what the problem is.

Require proof of citizenship to register to vote. What percent of the vote would be required to win a direct popular vote?

I'm pretty sure you need proof of citizenship now, or at least you do in Michigan and Missouri.

I don't know if I agree with chucking the EC and going to direct popular vote. As I said, I might favor proportional allotment of the EC votes, which would give third (or fourth) parties a bit more of a chance.

If they use the federal form states must accept it. It has a box to check stating you are a U. S. citizen. If you check that form they send you a voter registration certificate. Congress did not require citizenship for voting in federal offices until 1994(?) although many states made it a requirement.

Before retiring I was a teacher and used to give extra credit for students showing me their VR card. One summer I had two Asian sisters who showed me their cards but said they were not citizens. Every year people are excused from jury duty by claiming they aren't eligible to serve because they are not citizens although they are on the list of registered voters.

"In an Arizona voting case, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 2013 that states are obligated to permit registration for federal elections using the federal form, which does not require documentary proof of citizenship. States may have their own form, but they must be willing to accept the federal form."

Then Trump should have won. There is no way Biden got more legal votes than Trump. By the way the Country is a Republic not a Democracy

Biden won by 7 million, That is one way he got more. We add them up.
We have no way to put your right wing beliefs in the count, especially since they are wrong.

his first step should be to shoot himself in the head before hes declared incompetent by harris

No, you are dumb. Your comment is dumb. I could give a shit you were in the military.

Spoken like a true loser who is eternally upset that he wasn't good enough to serve this great nation. Pretty sad that you weren't even considered good enough to be used as cannon fodder. lol

But getting 2/3rd of the house and senate or 2/3 of the states on board ain't happening even if we all agree
something must be done. They want nobody but white landowners to vote from Wyoming and Montana and South Carolina
while we want every adult to vote and count each vote equally. Even if we had a convention, no way we agree on anything.

So you believe the oath taken by every member of the armed forces every cabinet member and every member of congress including the president and vice president is dumb. That says volumes about your patriotism. Comrade.

No, he thinks your digression to your military service and oaths in general doesn't tend in reason to make a point
against the allegation that calling all US citizens an "unruly mob" is deplorably un-American.

So you would need a constitutional convention and 14 states to agree to give up thier representation. this is the same old shit repackaged as a new idea. direct democracy is tyranny of the majority, and you can't violate state rights when it comes to voting methods.
