The Nation Is Divided Into Two Camps: Trump and Anti-Trump

I wasn't really talking about serving in our county's military as part of the having skin in the game when it comes to local or state politics.

You hang in there Norah. I still don't want some bureaucrat in DC making laws for us here even though they have no clue as to what's going on here. This one size fits all government is something I've fought (with my pen, voice and vote) ever since I was old enough to see what was what. You hang in there and learn all about it. I appreciate young people like you who can participate in discussions like this with people who oppose you, sometimes vehemently, sometimes with vulgarities, and maintain grace and poise. Let me encourage you to keep it up.

Well you're being a little tough on me today. The reason why states would struggle to do what the EPA does is because it would be taking on the massive bureaucracy that it has created which is inefficient and can be detrimental to progress and businesses. I would agree with you that some states may relax regulations too much which could result in something bad happening if there is no oversight but that doesn't mean the citizens of that state wouldn't or couldn't demand change locally or even statewide if they felt their waterways, soil, or other resources were being abused by an energy company or other type of business.
LOL I like you immensely Norah but I"m not here to be nice. I'm hear to challenge your thinking. :)

(you can play quid pro quo, I don't mind. :)

APPLAUSE :hand: :hand: :hand:

The wisdom of the Founders is that they were wise enough to know that they were creating a living document that SHOULD be changed as the population and society evolved.

Like Thomas Jefferson, I believe the Constitution should be changed frequently. For Jefferson, that was every 19 years.
Prepare for some of the serious changes you so yearn for and believe were written into the Constitution. Trump is about to name 3 or 4 fresh, new, and young SC Justices.

Thanks I appreciate that

Jefferson was also very much a strong advocate for states rights, agrarian society, and small federal government.

In his wisdom he knew that he only spoke for the times in which he lived.

A close study of his character does not place him in the republican tent if he was alive today.

He was a liberal and a Deist.

the right doesn't even like it when dems get to vote

The Election was Stolen – Here’s How…

Friday, November 11, 2016
Before a single vote was cast, the election was fixed by GOP and Trump operatives.
Starting in 2013 – just as the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act – a coterie of Trump operatives, under the direction of Kris Kobach, Kansas Secretary of State, created a system to purge 1.1 million Americans of color from the voter rolls of GOP–controlled states.
The system, called Crosscheck, is detailed in my Rolling Stone report,
“The GOP’s Stealth War on Voters,” 8/24/2016.
Crosscheck in action:**
Trump victory margin in Michigan: * * * * * * * * * *13,107
Michigan Crosscheck purge list: **********************449,922
Trump victory margin in Arizona: * * * * * * * * * * * 85,257
Arizona Crosscheck purge list: * * * * * * * * * * * * * 270,824
Trump victory margin in North Carolina: * * * *177,008
North Carolina Crosscheck purge list: * * * * * * *589,393
On Tuesday, we saw Crosscheck elect a Republican Senate and as President, Donald Trump.* The electoral putsch was aided by nine other methods of attacking the right to vote of Black, Latino and Asian-American voters, methods detailed in my book and film, including “Caging,” “purging,” blocking legitimate registrations, and wrongly shunting millions to “provisional” ballots that will never be counted.
Trump signaled the use of “Crosscheck” when he claimed the election is “rigged” because “people are voting many, many times.”* His operative Kobach, who also advised Trump on building a wall on the southern border, devised a list of 7.2 million “potential” double voters—1.1 million of which were removed from the voter rolls by Tuesday. The list is loaded overwhelmingly with voters of color and the poor. Here's a sample of the list

I know but I'm just not sure where to start when it comes to details. I think many of the departments in DC could be closed down so that states can decide on their own. Departments like education, EPA, federal reserve, HUD, energy, and many others could be eliminated or cut in half and it wouldn't affect the country due to states already having many of those functions in place.

and your proof

just saying it doesn't make it true

I hope he goes for some textualism -Scalia is a good example whether you agree or not.
If you can't find it somewhere in the text -chances are even stare decisis is wrong.

Original intent is almost as bogus as living document

It means he likes you, Norah.

I don't know about that. It is a balance. Our nations system of governance is a bottom up system of government. It all begins at the local level and works its way up to the Federal level. Local, State and Federal governments all have their roles and we have legislatures at all three levels to determine what those roles are.

Just as the Federal government does not perform well in situations that apply purely at a State or local level, State and local governments certainly do not perform well on issues that affect the nation as a whole.
I agree, it was a short answer to cawacko

Those people were fairly succinct and meant what they said. Now that Ginsburg is in New Zealand there are two open seats.

Don't you pay no attention to that ole humbug Norah. The whole nation isn't Chilicothe Oklahoma.

I hear that sort of nonsense all the time and it's typically not based on reason or fact but on the resentment that someone who lives across another border may actually know something you don't and couldn't possibly know anything about local conditions.

The Federal government can be ham handed. It can over reach it's authority and can do aggravating things like unfunded mandates but that does not undermine or underscore the importance of the role of the federal government in establishing standards that cross State lines because the impact of the activities of those whom live within those State lines impact those who live outside their State.

It's better to have a giant distant hand gripping everyone than a smaller local hand gripping a few.
