The Laschamp event and the demise of Neanderthals

Hey, @Cypress have you ever heard of the Joides Resolution? (NO, of course you haven't! Wikipedia that mofo asap). Here's a fun article from them.

"When I visited them yesterday I came across a calibrating discussion between the scientist. They were working to standardize their methods for observing the relative percentages of one grain size group to another and to give detailed analysis of the contents of smear slide samples taken from the cores. This would help them better describe what was in the layers of sediment found and piece together the story of the South China Sea, its climate and sea levels in the geologic record. Because I had taken a soil science course ages ago I wondered aloud if they were able to get enough sample of the core to use the classic texture by feel method to estimate amounts of clay, sand, and silt in the soil. “Well no, but it is easy to tell if you just eat a little bit of the mud.” Julie Schindlbeck told me. Turns out, that is thing with Geologists. Sediment sampling by mouth. The biology major in me thinks, again out loud, of course this makes sense because you probably have more nerve endings on your lips than your fingers. However, to a geologist it comes back to minerals and the Mohs hardness scale and whether or not what is in you mouth is scratching you teeth!

...

David Peate, who very matter of factly summed up the discussion with an agreement, “Sometimes you just need to get down and lick the rocks!”"

Is that you area? Psych? That's almost as funny as @Cypress claiming to have collected rocks in the Andes.

You two have the BEST fantasies.
Unlike you, Perry, I did take Psych 101. Don't they teach psych classes at your "facility", Perry? Group therapy?

Now brag again how you are smarter and better than me. I love it when you do that. LOL

Good for you! I'm sure your mom and dad were so proud that their gullible son who fantasized about flying up to heaven could actually take a school class. Good job.

Nah, I just read about Borderline Personality Disorder people. Your picture is on the cover of the book.

OHMYGOD you took a class. I didn't realize. I must sincerely apologize. I didn't think you had taken a class somewhere. Please, Dr. Einstein, accept my humble apology for your MASSIVE EDUCATION.

You took an intro class to something.

Wow. Seriously. You are so smart. Just like @Cypress (note how he has run away since he made his big claim that geologists don't stick rocks in their mouths. Hilarious! I showed him and now he's having to hide! Why don't you hide too?)

I want to prove how smart I am by Googling/writing about totally obscure tidbits of technical info nobody on this board cares about!! :)
 ftfy Knock yourself out Perry.

I myself have never used this board to pontificate about my career, my education, or to write extensively about obscure technical minutia that nobody cares about!

Maybe you can even tell the tale about your glorious geochem PhD (y)

Ya know for a brief minute I actually thought "I wonder if Cy actually DID spent time collecting rocks in the Andes". Then you said you've never met a geologist who stuck rocks in their mouths.

And at that point I knew you were lying through your teeth. You've never met any geologists.

That's why I posted the MANY MANY MANY citations which talk about geologists sticking rocks in their mouths. It used to be so common it was kind of a joke. And it's obviously still happening.

As I proved.

But then I can ALWAYS SUPPORT MY CLAIMS. Cypress, however, can't.

For instance: he can't show me where I said I had a PhD. He can't show me this "Percy" guy he keeps confusing me with. He can't show me where he talked about geology with Percy.

Basically Cypress: you really are all talk. you got nothin' man. And it took someone like me to show the world.

Keep dancin' though.

^^^Thought he could bullshit about a field he has no understanding of.

ANd he can't even prove the existence of his imaginary friend, Percy! LOLOLOL.

I mean that's gotta be SIMPLE if he's real.

Am I supposed to be "agnostic" about Percy?

That's actually almost all you do. You spend so much time telling people all the great books you've read and all the philosophers you've read. Most of the time you are incapable of even explaining what you've read in your own words (which is why you ALWAYS go for Wikipedia).

Don't stress it, though Cy. Everyone knows you are king of the show-offs on JPP. It's practically a running joke among the posters on here about your "name checking".

So please don't make yourself out to have virtues you lack. You are a loser like most of the folks on JPP. You just had the string of bad luck in this thread to run up against someone who knows more about a topic than you do and they could tell you were lying.

And I did the worst thing imaginable in your world: I supported my point and showed you for the faker you are.

Funny how you didn't know anything about that. YOU could have spoken at length about it if you had actually been in the Andes collecting mudstones.

Fuck, you'd understand all of that. But for some reason the guy who never claimed to be a rock collector in the Andes seemed to be able to tell you more about why you would be out there than you could yourself.

And then the howler about not knowing any geologists who've "licked a rock". That was too much. Really, you way overshot.
