Texas man’s concealed handgun discharges in elementary school

LOL. Okay let's fortify up schools. Brilliant!!!

Lets use a strawman argument BRILLIANT!!! Do you lock your doors . Why?

So surgeons, nurses, and patients should also be carrying? What about grocery shoppers and store employees? Concert- and movie-goers? Pastors? The choir and parishioners? Everybody?

This is the moronic "thinking" that has led to the proliferation of guns and gun deaths.

He thinks America is a war zone. Notice the difference between here and Israel?

A 55-year-old Texas man was arrested after his gun discharged in an elementary school, leaving him with a gunshot wound to his leg, authorities said.

The incident reportedly triggered a lockdown at Duff Elementary School in Arlington shortly before noon Thursday.

ABC News identified the gunman as Anthony White, who is a parent to a student at the school.

You're a waste, vaguno, a direct representation of social decay:

This points to an issue with the "more guns will save us" mentality, especially in the school-shootings context. Since school shootings are so very rare to begin with, it will take very little to outweigh any positive effect in reducing them.

Some "back of the envelop" math:

Say about 19 kids will be killed per year with school shootings, with the status quo, consistent with recent historical averages:

https://nces.ed.gov/programs/coe/indicator/a01

And say the "more good guys with guns" approach would save just over half those kids. That's nine per year. Now, how many extra will die because of the "good guys with guns" approach?

That's tough to say, but it's not hard to identify scenarios where more armed people in schools leads to deaths:

(1) Accidental discharges, similar to the one in this story -- someone has a gun in a pocket, accidentally triggers it, and someone gets shot.

(2) Kids getting their hands on guns and shooting someone -- for example, the teacher who leaves a gun in a drawer or a purse, and a curious kid finds it when she leaves the room and someone winds up dead.

(3) Mistaken-identity shootings -- a panicky teacher guns down a student in shop class when he mistakes a nail gun for the real thing, or a teacher shoots a child who is playing with a toy gun.

(4) Escalation of situations that otherwise would have ended peacefully (a situation where an unarmed teacher would have talked someone down, but an armed teacher instead guns him down).

(5) Crimes of passion by those carrying the weapons (e.g., a teacher gets fired and has a gun on hand and goes off the deep end, killing someone before having the chance to calm down).

(6) A student wrestles a gun away from a teacher and then goes on a shooting spree.

How likely does it seem that all of those potential scenarios won't add up to more shooting deaths than the nine kids we might save per year with the approach?

If an armed intruder breaks into your school that you were teaching at would you rather be:

1 armed with chalk

2. armed with a gun and be trained on how to properly defend yourself with it?

I know which answer I would choose. Police are humans and teachers are humans . Humans can be trained. Defending yourself is a human instinct.

Let's just require every teacher to be a softball or baseball coach. Then they can keep a bat in their classroom and defend themselves with that.

It is not a strawman. It's what you want for schools.

And why ask such a dumb question?
Of course its a srtawman. I have already posted my suggestions for schools and they are nothing like that so why are you lying? Is your position so weak that you have to resort to lies and misrepresentations.

And why didn't you answer if you locked your house and why?

If they are in an environment where the law prhobits them from defending themselves maybe we should consider changing the law. Little kids have no choice. They must go to school and they can't defend themselves. We need to harden the target and we need to provide school personnel with the means to defend them. Also a church in White Settlement Texas shot and killed an armed intruder that shot a parishioner and was trying to shoot more.

It is not a strawman. You want schools to be fortified up the wazoo.

And why didn't you answer if you locked your house and why?

Because it's so dumb it doesn't deserve an answer.

I think that gentleman took the phrase, "load in your pants" a little too far.

In other words they have to join the military and be trained.

Exactly! And kids can't get to their guns in army. That shit is locked up securely when not in use and every round accounted for.

My friend, Express is getting desperate with his false analogies.

No. The law we need to change is like the law in TX where a little shit can walk into a store and purchase an arsenal with no questions asked. THAT'S THE LAW WE NEED TO CHANGE.

Abbott and Cruz might have well shot those kids and teachers themselves. And then they partied a the NRA convention. Great bunch of satanic demons, those TX Republicans.
