Socialists Are No Strangers to Congress

a guaranteed income is a step of government subsidy to workers - that's much different the a minimum wage

Again, it is not that, don't lose sleep, it is not happening anytime soon.

And how is it any different, the Gov't guarantees that you are going to receive a minimum level wage for your work. As I noted, it is a product of a mixed approach, you have to keep the job to get the guarantee

you sound like others who said . "don't worry about China -they have a long way to go"..until they don't..

I don't lose sleep over it,but it doesn't mean i'm not concerned about the America of the future..

If you can't see how a minimum wage law is different from a subsidy....

Opinion article, as I said, every generation thinks the generations behind them are lazy and bums
Gallup poll. not an opinion piece

Fewer Than Half of Young Americans View Capitalism Positively
https://news.gallup.com/poll/240725/democrats-positive-socialism-capitalism.aspx
Americans aged 18 to 29 are as positive about socialism (51%) as they are about capitalism (45%). This represents a 12-point decline in young adults' positive views of capitalism in just the past two years and a marked shift since 2010, when 68% viewed it positively. Meanwhile, young people's views of socialism have fluctuated somewhat from year to year, but the 51% with a positive view today is the same as in 2010.

Older Americans have been consistently more positive about capitalism than socialism. For those 50 and older, twice as many currently have a positive view of capitalism as of socialism.

this new brand of socialism is a threat.
There isn't a lot of "mixing" when you start talking about guaranteed incomes etc.

Kids today actually think the government should provide happiness ( as opposed to pursuit thereof)

Kids don't think this BS, the racist white man thinks this and blames it on kids...….note the difference.

How the hell would you know what kids today think?

You haven’t seen the polling then that shows millinials and younger being open to socialism. I think most of that comes from naivety but nonetheless the info is out there

No I have not, and to be honest, probably won't, she is a freshman Congresswomen, other than the media focus on her, she has little real influence in Washington. I do believe she already got put in her place with Pelosi's new House rules on introducing legislation

And people are always worried about this "incremental basis," how long have we heard such as the NRA saying any gun legislation is just the beginning leading to confiscating all guns? Or the right wing demogogues preaching any compromise means you have lost and it is only a matter of time before the other side pushes the agency further? Same arguement was employed back in the fifties to fight Social Security as if it was going to lead to the downfall of America

A number of leading Democrats have backed it including Elizabeth warren and Cory booker

I think the issue/discussion is not if certain things are socialist, we don't have a 100% laissez-faire Ayn Rand Atlas Shrugged type society, but the overall economy where government owns the means of production which people like iolo want.

I have to admit, I didn't read the OP, it was too long. I just reacted to the Title.

My Thoughts:

"mer·can·til·ism
/mərˈkan(t)əˌlizəm/Submit
noun
belief in the benefits of profitable trading; commercialism.
HISTORICAL
the economic theory that trade generates wealth and is stimulated by the accumulation of profitable balances, which a government should encourage by means of protectionism."

This is what China is doing. Being a Mercantilist Society, an Ethno-State. Highly Nationalistic. Pretending to be a Globalist Country like all others in the WTO.
If China held up democratic values, free speech, individual liberty, and diversity, they might not be a threat, but they don't. They DON'T respect Free Speech and they DON'T respect Individual Liberty, just the OPPOSITE. China plans on being the sole Super Power by 2050, with an economy 3 times larger than the US. China plans on imposing 'Chinese Culture', like One Party Rule, censorship of any opposition, and the crushing of 'individual liberty' with a sense of 'collective ideology'.

To counter this, the US must first realize the Threat, then begin to implement a National Plan for Survival of Western Values. This may include counter acting China with similar tactics of 'Government/Banking/Corporate Integration'.

China has a 'Plan' of 'Cyber Theft', 'economic warfare', and 'forced transfer of Technology' to get to where they want to be. Look at 'Apple Smartphones' being targeted by the Chinese Government as being 'American' and 'unpatriotic' to purchase.

We can sit around the old Cracker Barrel discussing 'socialism' and 'capitalism' but what we should be discussing is the War that is being waged against us, the asymmetrical War that we seem to be unaware of by Authoritarian Governments.

the racist white man has given the word "socialism" a bad rap.

STOP LISTENING TO THESE RACIST WHTIE MEN SPEWING THEIR FEAR AND HATE.

Kids don't think this BS, the racist white man thinks this and blames it on kids...….note the difference.
Wow, now kids are a race.
So in the new PC world created by moonbats lets review newly oppressed races deserving of reparations by white males:

Muslims
Women
Kids

in addition to:

blacks
mesicans
injuns

Did I miss any other "races"?

Are Public Schools 'Socialism'?

It's 'Free' for every child.
The Buildings aren't private, they are publicly owned.
The Teachers are paid by the State.

If Public Heath was like that, would that be 'Socialism'?

No. Tax-funded is not the same as publicly owned.

No. The success record speaks for itself. From the Paris Commune to the Khmer Rouge, the whole lofty project was an utter disaster.

Oh. Uh, yeah. OK.

Both liberals and conservatives try to make the argument that tax-funded spending is the same a public ownership, that universal healthcare, public education, welfare, are all socialist by nature.

The problem is all these were conceived and implemented in societies where workers never owned the means of production, where there was still a market, in short, where there was no socialism.

Where have workers ever owned the means of production?

As I cited with another before, you are viewing it as a dichotomy, but the reality is that any economy is a mixed economy with elements of both socialism and capitalism included

Quiz:

1. Do you prefer a Public Roadway (called a Freeway) that is funded by the Tax Payer.
2. Or do you prefer a Private Roadway (called a Toll Road or Turnpike) that is funded by Private Individuals?
