I think the issue/discussion is not if certain things are socialist, we don't have a 100% laissez-faire Ayn Rand Atlas Shrugged type society, but the overall economy where government owns the means of production which people like iolo want.
I have to admit, I didn't read the OP, it was too long. I just reacted to the Title.
My Thoughts:
"mer·can·til·ism
/mərˈkan(t)əˌlizəm/Submit
noun
belief in the benefits of profitable trading; commercialism.
HISTORICAL
the economic theory that trade generates wealth and is stimulated by the accumulation of profitable balances, which a government should encourage by means of protectionism."
This is what China is doing. Being a Mercantilist Society, an Ethno-State. Highly Nationalistic. Pretending to be a Globalist Country like all others in the WTO.
If China held up democratic values, free speech, individual liberty, and diversity, they might not be a threat, but they don't. They DON'T respect Free Speech and they DON'T respect Individual Liberty, just the OPPOSITE. China plans on being the sole Super Power by 2050, with an economy 3 times larger than the US. China plans on imposing 'Chinese Culture', like One Party Rule, censorship of any opposition, and the crushing of 'individual liberty' with a sense of 'collective ideology'.
To counter this, the US must first realize the Threat, then begin to implement a National Plan for Survival of Western Values. This may include counter acting China with similar tactics of 'Government/Banking/Corporate Integration'.
China has a 'Plan' of 'Cyber Theft', 'economic warfare', and 'forced transfer of Technology' to get to where they want to be. Look at 'Apple Smartphones' being targeted by the Chinese Government as being 'American' and 'unpatriotic' to purchase.
We can sit around the old Cracker Barrel discussing 'socialism' and 'capitalism' but what we should be discussing is the War that is being waged against us, the asymmetrical War that we seem to be unaware of by Authoritarian Governments.
