Simple solution to gas shortage. National speed limit to 45 mph. SAVE LIVES TOO

Simpler solution: pump more oil.

Pumping more oil isn't going to have anything more than a nominal and temporary impact on the price per barrel because OPEC can very easily ramp up or clamp down on production if a smaller player in the market decides to make a move.

You have to understand, OPEC controls the spigot...so if some US oil company "pumps more", all OPEC does is reduce their pumping by the same amount in order to maintain the price, OR they could ramp up production in order to price that smaller player out of the market completely...and they did precisely that in 2015-16.

I say let them buy bikes. I own two cheapies . Last bike i bought at wally a few years ago for 80 bucks. Still going strong.

there is not a single reasonable one, interstates are in place for a reason, its always the slow minded that want to fuck up progress

HAHAHA. You are truly insane. Do you honestly think there is no reason for doing under the speed limit on a freeway??? What about a snow storm.??? What about if you see a crash up ahead.? What about if you want to exit? THINK, you miserable tranny.

This TDAK guy really needs to stay in his house if he's so terrified of automobiles.
I can and do ignore all of his posts, but I can't ignore his incredibly stupid thread titles.
Can you imagine being stuck behind this guy on a solid center line country road?
I'm surprised nobody has killed him yet. Seriously.

Address the issue you stupid darky. Would a national speed limit of 45 save 5,000 american lives a year and reduce gas consumption by say 20%???

Back in 1974 we lowered speed limits to 55 nationally to save gas and it also caused highway fatalities to immediately drop by 9,000 a year. It's a great idea but the auto industry opposes it and they pay the media to brainwash the moron american into thinking he a has the "right" to drive 80 mph. Car crashes mean car sales.

This propaganda again?? Lame.

No. The 55mph speed limit did NOT lower fatalities. Improved equipment did.
It DID waste fuel (just as a 45mph limit would) due to the drag coefficients on cars today. It also wasted people's time...yet another tax. I guess you don't remember the strikes that came out of that, do ya?

To make the lower speed limits work we would also need much stiffer penalties. And the penalties should vary with the weight of the vehicle. A 3 ton vehicle doing 60 mph uses up more gas and poses a bigger safety risk than a one ton vehicle at the same speed.

There is already a shortage cause by shipping problems. Your proposal would only make it worse.

Gawd the short memory you people have.
