If you demanded that Rep. Anthony Weiner quit, how could you in good conscience not also demand that Senator David Vitter resign?

We do seem to have an odd perspective on sex scandals in the US. Most of the world expects men in position of power to behave badly in regards to the fairer sex. I'm not saying it's right....I'm saying it's expected. Personally I could care less about what they do in their private lives.

But yea you're right, it's the cover up and not the sin and that's the difference between Vitter and Weiner. Weiner lied, tried to cover it up, had several press conferences denying it (bad idea) and ended up shooting himself (where I won't mention). In the process he also became a major political distraction at a very bad time for his party. Weiner completely blew it (no pun intended).

That's also a good point. Weiner may have lied to cover up his sin but Vitter's sin was also a misdemeaner.

Personally I don't give a rats ass. As long as his constituents are ok with it and he's not become a distraction that is impeeding his party's political agenda, why should he resign?

Actually it's not a double standard. Weiner is completely at fault for letting things get out of hand. If he'd just did a mea culpa and said "my bad", as Vitter did, it would have died. But he didn't. He lied and then he had a press conference and lied again, which was completely stupid as he brought more attention towards himself by the press who uncovered fruther sins to which he had another press conference and lied some more which invited further enquiries from the press all the time while his party is under serious pressure to negotiate a budget deal and he's become a major distraction and thus a liability to his own party, which Vitter did not. Weiner had to go and it was his own damned fault. This is not a double standard.
