Should Vitter resign?

First, they weren't in office and second, they weren't caught and prosecuted. I note that you used two Dems as your example but left out bush and other repubs who also used illegal drugs.

But my real point is, why the double standard? Who makes the decision on which people should resign and what criteria do they use?

This thread is asking if Vitter should resign over soliciting a prostitute BEFORE he held the office. He was never "caught and prosecuted" for anything. So there is no 'double standard' unless you voted for Vitter to resign.

The Weiner scandal was made for the press. There were pictures. There were chat transcripts. There are women giving interviews. That's why he resigned. Because let's get real, having perfectly legal consensual steamy chats and sending junk shots is a far cry from ordering hookers from the floor of the House of Representatives.

Are you saying that is what Vitter did? Because you have your timeline a bit off.

Yes, I'm saying that's what Vitter did and my timeline is correct.

Well, that depends on whether you think that the service calling him (which happened), is the same as him calling the service (not on the records).

Vitter's number had been called five times by the service (they called him), two times while roll call votes were happening. While it makes more impact when you say that Vitter was calling them, it simply isn't what was reported.

The statement containing Vitter's apology said his telephone number was included in phone records dating from his days as a member of the House of Representatives.[6] Phone records show that Vitter's number was called by Palfrey's service five times, the first on October 12, 1999, and the last on February 27, 2001.[21] Two calls were placed while House roll call votes were in progress.

Notice who initiated the contact there... I bolded it for you.

Your timeline is incorrect.

I didn't claim that Vitter called anyone. I said he ordered hookers. Now, you can pretend that Vitter didn't really order hookers and was just catching up with his friendly neighborhood Madam if you wish, but those of us that weren't born last night will tend to not agree with you.

personally, I think it was the 17 year old that did him in. While there is very little he could do to 'verify' the age of the girl and while I believe he was under the impression she was an adult, the publicity of 'one of the girls was a minor' was about to take the level of nastiness to a place he and the Dem leadership did not want it to go.

I thought that the minor, her mother, the police and Weiner all confirmed that he didn't send lusty messages or pictures to the 17 year old, no? Granted, I haven't followed this story much at all . . .

Right, "ordered hookers from the floor"...

That means the original contact would have to be initiated by him from the floor. It is far more likely that he ordered them previously, and that they called back at an inconvenient moment than it is he was "ordering hookers from the floor"....

As I said, it makes more impact for the "I hate" crowd, it simply isn't what was reported.

Your timeline is off, and you don't like that I was right so you try to dismiss it with an ad hom. Weak as hell...

Do you think he should resign for this misdemeanor after the fact?

I think 17 is legal though in New York. Obviously might not play well with many people but from a legality standpoint he was not out of bounds talking to someone that age.

There were reports with Weiner of a 16 year old in Denmark or somewhere near there. That is, I believe, what got him to resign.

Actually, it doesn't "Require" anything other than Vitter ordering hookers from the floor. But, whatever. Let's take your version since you want to defend Diapers. Diapers Vitter made arrangements with hookers from the floor of the House. Better?

As I said, it makes more impact for the "I hate" crowd, it simply isn't what was reported.

Damo, just because you have an alternative theory as to what happened than I do does not mean that "my timeline is off." It just means that you have a different view of what happened. Shockingly, your view of what happened is quite charitable to the Republican that discussed his arrangements with hookers on the floor of the House.

Am I wrong that Vitter has been reelected since the allegations came to light?

I thought that the minor, her mother, the police and Weiner all confirmed that he didn't send lusty messages or pictures to the 17 year old, no? Granted, I haven't followed this story much at all . . .

Not sure about the police on it.... but given the 'confirmations of no wrong doing' prior to Weiner admitting that he had sent photos... I didn't quite trust the rest. I personally haven't followed it closely either.... Just relaying tidbits I have heard because I was too slow to find the remote and change the channel.

Not sure. Don't really care all that much. Personally the Weiner jokes alone made it worth it to keep him in office a bit longer. :)

I don't think he should resign, and I think the GOP should run national ads showing people what a bunch of cry-baby tit-for-tat fucktards are running the Democrat party. Weiner was forced to resign, so now we gotta bring down a Republican, so it is "fair!" Give me a break! You people need to grow the fuck up!

And I should have known better than to expect a partisan turd like you would be even handed over this issue.

Vitter cheated on his wife with a prostitute, once again we had a "family values" Rightie telling us to "do as I say and not as I do".

Vitter violated the oath he made to his wife and to God...but who else was really surprised that Righties would wind up being the two-faced hacks we suspected?

Well basically, if the person under investigation is a "family values" Rightie...then they get a pass from other "family values" Righties...

however...

If the person under investigation is a Liberal, then they need to resign and right NOW damnit!

If we apply that standard then Obama couldn't be President. He sucked up cocaine and other illegal drugs. Methinks you probably want to rethink this stance.

Ol Double Standard Damo...that's going to be your new nickname...

Giving up all pretext of impartiality, are ya?

Well no one's bought your bullshit for months now so why not go all in and just be another partisan Rightie hack?

I think Vitter should resign. Politicians are a dime a dozen - we can therefore expect only the best-of-the-best in terms of personal morals and ethics should be kept in office. If I ever did anything that came to light, my immediate inclination would be to resign my elected office.
